Another Monday and another week of trying to live a healthy lifestyle. I hope everyone had a great weekend. It was a challenge for me as we went out to eat all 3 nights. Friday was treat night so no worries there. Saturday I did really well and got lots of exercise but Sunday not so good. I did get a little hike in but then I had a beer and dessert at dinner last night. The dinner it's self was really healthy though. The place we went servers the Chicken and Balsamic vegetable dish that I posted a recipe for. So I was over 1100 calories yesterday. Oh and I hit McDonald's on the way to church, I will sometimes get the egg mcmuffin but they got it wrong and gave me sausage, so that added some calories I was not expecting. I have cut way back on going there, because what I fix at home is so much better tasting and better for you. I will cut back this week a couple days and make up for it.

Happy Monday morning!
My weekend went very well overall. I had a little bout of emotional eating last night, but not going to let it sabotage my whole week. Especially since I did so well with my husband gone. Plus, today is a new day!
One of the things they stress at my Weight Watcher meetings is to commit to one small change for the week. This can be anything from tracking your food for a day (if you don't currently track), drinking your water, getting in two days of exercise, putting your fork down between bites when eating, etc. These routines have been an awesome change to the meetings, and have been very helpful. My commitment for last week was to make it through the weekend without overating... which I did! So this week I'm going to work on only eating when I'm truly hungry. This always hard for me because I tend to have the thought, "it's 8 am, time for breakfast" or "it's noon, time for lunch" and I may not even be hungry but I feel I have to eat because the clock says so. Trying to change that so I only eat if I'm actually hungry.
And of course, this week (Wednesday through Sunday) will be challenging because my husband will be out of town again.
Do any of you have any challenges this week?0 -
I had a decent weekend, considering. I was in New Orleans for a bachelor party, on Saturday night, but got away with only eating fast food twice. The drinks, though... oh well, had a great time! I even got in 45 min of exercise each day. Saturday, I did it before we left, then Sunday, we woke up and went to the hotel pool.
Howie, I have noticed, recently, that I have cut way back on fast food. I think this weekend was the first time in a couple of weeks.
Stacy, my goal this week is a juicing experiment. Except I don't have a juicer, so I'm making smoothies. I had one for dinner and I'm just now feeling hungry. I don't really have a set time limit that I'm shooting for, just going to ride it out and see where I feel like stopping.0 -
Yes TeeJay the fast food used to really be a trigger for me. It really does not appeal much anymore.
Stacey I know exactly how you feel with the emotional eating. I too struggle with that, always have and probably always will. But like you said we can keep it in check by trying to stick to goals. My goal this week is to walk everyday even if it's only 20 minutes. I have done this pretty much for the past two weeks and it feels really good to be getting back into a walking routine. Mon-Fri is pretty easy because I have been walking to work. So I get 40 minutes in there. I try to walk another 20 at lunch. The weekends are where I really have to kick myself to do it.0 -
TeeJay - How's the smoothie-fast going? Are you having to fight any cravings or are the smoothies keeping you satisfied? I don't think I would ever do a juice fast, but I would be willing try it with smoothies. I think I would feel more full since I would be getting the full fruit/vegetable (so more fiber from the pulp and such). So I'm very interested to see how things go for you!
Howie - I'm jealous you have good enough weather to be outside! We get glimpses of spring, but then it snows or turns cold again. I did walk with my walking group this morning (well part of the group... the rest overslept or couldn't make it), but it was COLD! 17 degrees for the whole walk. I thought for sure once the sun came up that it would get a bit warmer, but it never did. LOL
I do plan on walking at lunch today and maybe again on my afternoon break. During the nice weather, I'm able to get away from work for a three walks a day, but this winter that has been hard to do. My friend and I have even taken to walking the mall at lunch when the weather was really bad!0 -
Stacy(or Stacey, which is it?) - So far, it's going well. I'm a little surprised, though. The last time I "ate" was yesterday at noon and I am just now(10:30a) hungry enough to eat again. I had a 16oz smoothie, and its kept me feeling full for at least 20 hours(I was kinda hungry a couple hours ago). This is day 2, and I guess I'll keep on until I feel like having food again. I was tired from the weekend, but this morning, I felt MUCH better. I don't know if that's necessarily from the smoothie, or if it's just because I actually got some sleep, but I think it's worth noting. So far, no headaches, or anything. As far as cravings, I rarely actually "crave" something. Sometimes, I feel like snacking, for the sake of snacking, but other than that it's been fine.0

Yes it's supposed to be 68 here by Monday. The last two days have been in the 30's though, but at least no snow to speak of. I'm with you Stacy, on the juice fast. I just don't think it's something I want to do or feel a need to do. Good for you for trying it though TJ.0

Hi Everyone! I just wanted to check in. My week is going well and has been pretty standard so far. I'm trying to cut down on fats for the next couple of weeks to see if that will result in some fat loss. So far I have been successful and I will try to wait until Sunday to take my measurements, weight, and body fat percentage. Hopefully I'll notice some difference in my clothes first. Fingers-crossed.
TJ - I'm curious as to what was in your smoothie? Something that keeps you satiated for over 24 hours is freaking amazing in my book. Congrats and good luck with your juice/smoothie challenge. I'm with the others here as I like food too much to join such a challenge but I'm definitely interested in how it goes for you.
Cheers All!0 -
Angela - Here's what I put in it:
- Kale
- Spinach
- 1 Cucumber
- about a cup and a half pineapple
- 1 skinned avocado(with pit)
- 4 brazil nuts
- 2 carrots
- 1 peeled lime
- about 1/3 can of coconut milk
- cilantro
I don't really know how much spinach and kale I put, but what I did was stuff my 6 cup Ninja with 50/50 of each and blended it down, then filled it back up with 50/50 each, then added the rest of the ingredients. I think I put a little water to thin it, but that doesn't add anything. I may try it with a little more fruit, tonight, because this one was a little too grassy, even with the super sweet pineapple.
It made right at 6 cups, so I had a glass Sunday night, then put the rest in 2 mason jars for work.0 -
What do you consider low Angela? I keep my fat intake around 70 to 90 gr most days. I hope it give you the effect you desire. Keep up the good work.0

UPDATE: Well, maybe yesterday was a weird day. Today, I feel just as hungry as I usually do at this time(4:30p). Maybe because it was about 24 hours before meals, lol.0

TJ - Your smoothie sounds pretty good! Today is the first time that I remembered to put brazil nuts in my smoothie. I will post the recipe on the recipes post. I've realized that most of my smoothies are not fabulous, but they are still consumable. Ha ha! I know exactly whats in them and I don't feel guilty for downing 24 oz of one. Today's smoothie had over 600 calories. I hope it keeps me full until well after my lunchtime workout. I have a 4oz grassfed sirloin and some bone broth for lunch, so that won't be as high in cals or fats.
Howie - I don't measure my macros in grams...for some reason that seems way too hard for me. I think that measuring that way is the standard but I just can't get into it. I do it in percentages on MFP so I shoot for 70% Fat, 20% Protein, and 10 Carbs. I planned on dropping my fats to around 50 and increasing my carbs (veggies, tubers, and berries). This mornings smoothie was right on at 50% fat, 21% protein, and 29% carbs. Just luck there though. It looks like it had 35 grams of fat in it.0 -
Angela - You are so right about "not fabulous" I made a new one last night and it still wasn't very good, so I just decided to stop doing it. The one I put up yesterday was the better one I made, though.0

You guys talk about hoping it keeps you satisfied until your next meal. What is so great about the smoothie? Wouldn't it just be more satisfying to eat a bunch of fruit and vegetables and some nuts? Not trying to be funny here, I'm just curious. I would rather have a big salad to munch on than to drink it.
I have just looked at my calorie report for this week and I am on track after having a second treat night on Sunday. I went low cal a couple days and should be under my 14400 for the week. That is 1800 a day and 3600 for treat day. My exercise is going well this week too.0 -
So far my smoothies have been satiating so they are working there. The reason I make them is because I bought that awesome Vitamix. Also, there's no way that I would ever eat that much in just one sitting. I like to know I'm getting so much nutrition at the beginning of my day. I don't drink them everyday, especially when I know I won't be exercise, but I suppose it would still be a good idea (for me) to make a smaller one w/less added fat just to get my veggies in.0

Weighed in at my WW meeting this morning and was down 1.6 pounds... so five weeks in a row with a loss! So excited to be back on track and losing again. I have my calorie goal set to lose .2-.4 per week because I want to take it off slowly so when I get to back to my goal weight, maybe I will be able to maintain it this time! LOL
Angela - I love the idea of getting all of your nutrients in first thing in the morning. Makes sense! Once less thing to worry about during the day.
Was snowing at lunch time (again!) so I had to the mall walk with my friend. Would love it if we could get some decent weather for more than one day! I'm ready to walk outside on a regular basis and start hiking again.0 -
Great job this week everyone! Looks like everyone has had a great week. I had a great week of eating mostly nutritious foods so far and with no alcohol included. I've been great with my daily steps and workouts too. Hopefully I'll have some type of positive results when I take my measurements and weigh in this weekend. There's a caveat here and that is that my in-laws will be in town as of this evening and that means there will be alcohol drinking for me. It's almost impossible not to as they just can't stand it when I don't drink with them. I think it makes them feel weird. Actually, I almost need to drink when I'm around them anyway so it works out for all of us. Ha ha!
Have a great weekend!0 -
Stacy, that's awesome! I'm down 1.2, this week from last. My wife will be gone ALL weekend, so hopefully I can avoid the bored eating. I do have a couple of friends coming over to do a project Saturday, so that should help. Plus, I have a good bit of leftovers, so lazy/convenience bad decisions shouldn't come into play.
Angela, at first, I thought you meant you had to drink to tolerate them, then you squashed that idea, but THEN you brought it right back up, lol.
Howie, I was kinda planning to do what Angela said, and use the smoothies to get more nutrients, but I just didn't want to choke them down anymore. Plus, I figured that with the way it kept me full, it probably wasn't doing any good, anyways. 300 calories every 24 hours doesn't seem like a very good idea to keep up with.0 -
Angela - I thought the same thing TJ did! LOL Hopefully with the inlaws coming to town there won't be added stress. I don't know about you, but that usually triggers overeating for me.Stacy, that's awesome! I'm down 1.2, this week from last. TJ - My husband is out of town again this weekend, and I'm doing the same thing - leftovers! We have a ton in our freezer so it will be a good opportunity to eat up some of the older stuff. My husband couldn't believe I just wanted to leftovers. But I figure microwaving and making a big salad is about all the work I want to do if it's just me. LOL And congrats on being down this week! So the smoothies certainly didn't hinder your weightloss.0 -
No, they did not. I was actually down about 2 additional pounds on wednesday, but went back up when I stopped with them. They were mostly veggies, so not much sugar there.
I think I'm going to start my intermittent fasting experiment back up. Probably on Monday. I tried in December, but only lasted about 3 or 4 days due to family issues, then being busy with Christmas and New Years. Maybe it'll last longer, this time.0 -
Okay, I was click away from ordering pizza (have had a migraine/headache nearly all day and was ready to do some major comfort eating), but I told myself I could order it but I had to log it first... and once I saw all those calories in my tracker I decided I didn't want it or need. Yea me! I will probably be over my calories for the day, but not nearly as bad as if I had ordered the pizza...
How is everyone else doing this weekend?0 -
In honesty Stacy - BADLY! BUT - I made myself input all my food yesterday and today knowing the result would be appalling and working forward from there. The fact I reached for my husband's pringles and he said "no, I don't want to feel guilty about you eating these" was hilarious and a hit of reality. So back on the bandwagon for a Sunday start!0

Certainly makes a difference seeing everything in the tracker, doesn't it!
And good for your husband for being supportive in a loving way! Sometimes it's a fine line that our significant other has to walk between being supportive and being nagging.0 -
Pre-tracking sounds like a good idea. It seems like it would make you make better choices, rather than just make you feel bad, later!0
