Vegan Recovery Drink

Sooo.. I started a new workout routine and I am sooo sore. I googled about what to do being this sore and got a lot of "have a recovery drink after your workout". BUT..as we all know, lots of those are made with whey, or suggest milk, etc. Does anyone know any vegan versions of recovery drinks? I've found the Vega brand, but would rather just eat/drink certain things that would help instead of spending a ton on Vega shake mixes.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I have a few AdvoCare products I use before and after workouts, not many since most aren't vegan friendly, but as for a recovery drink...after a hard workout I will usually drink a Rehydrate and just stick with a healthy snack that has an adequate protein/carb ratios for the type of workout. If you are doing cardio, a little more on the carbs...for strength a little more on the protein. LaraBars or Bare Naked granola packets tend to work well for me.

I'm not an expert, but from perusing the exercise message boards getting a lot of protein after a workout is good. I don't know if there is a Whole Foods near you, but they have a vegan soy protein powder. It's labeled vegetarian, but after looking at the ingredients, I know a few vegan friends have confirmed it's vegan. Google vegan soy protein powder. I'm sure there are more out there.

I’ve used Vega products but find them to be expensive (I do use their Electrolyte mix). My go to meal after a long run or cycling is a smoothie. Mix-match whatever you want/need. My typical is 4-7 bananas, scoop of PlantFusion protein, almond or coconut milk. Sometimes I’ll add fresh ground peanut/almond butter. I’d also agree with the poster above, Larabars are pretty good—I just started using these on my long runs where I need to eat during.

    Does beer count?

It just takes time, and as you build up stamina the soreness will get better. I used to be sore training for a 5k. Now I'm not sure unless I'm over about 8 miles?
