What brings you to MFP?

I got married in August of 2007. Between then and December 2012 I gained about 40-45 pounds. I had been trying off and on to lose it during that time, but didn't have much success. I know now that most of what I knew about weight loss was either a little off or completely wrong altogether.
In 2012, I got an ear infection and went to the doctor because I couldn't hear much out of my right ear and couldn't hear anything but muffled sounds out of my left. I stepped on the scale at the clinic and saw that I was 11 pounds heavier than the heaviest I said I'd ever let myself get. Hubby and I were looking into joining Weight Watchers. I looked online to see what people said about it, and some people recommended MFP over WW, so here I am.
I've had some ups and downs over the last 15ish months, but I am 28 pounds down and feel better than I have in my life.
What about you?

Hello,
I have been gaining slowly over the past ten years until suddenly it hit me. Nothing fit. I did a lot with my kids so I was always wearing loose clothes and comfort clothes, We began going back to church when we moved down here in Louisiana, and many of the people are very heavy down here. I was actually the thin one, well , not really. I couldn't buy the clothes I liked any more and finally took the plunge and went a few sizez larger, and then after that it seems well, another size. etc. I went to the doctor and normally I looked so good on paper that he wanted to know if I worked out all the time. If you call walking to the car and back a workout , well then , yes. Now , suddenly I have high blood pressure, it was really high and I only found out when everyone was doing the check at the mall, and so did I. I was shocked and thought the machine was wrong. I had to go to emergency and they finally got it down to normal . I don't want to take med , so I need to lose weight now. That is what is prompting me to stick to my diet. Plus I want my kids to be proud of me again, not that they are not, but they want me to take care of myself and that is a good example to them. Plus I enrolled back into the University to complete my Masters in Theology after all of this time. I have been doing that for the last two years when I could take the classes and believe me it is a lot of study and sitting around, and so I ate while I studied. Another thing too, it gets so hot here, I can't imagine how really heavy people cope with the sweat, the amt of weight I gained I felt uncomfortable and self conscious. I would like to lose about thirty lbs or so.
