Want to start but not enough weights?

Hi
I've tried New Rules and I just can't get on with it and I've heard lots of good things about strong lifts so I've decided to try and give this a go instead.
I don't have a lot of money so I work out at home so only have limited equipment. I do have a squat rack but not many weights. I've seen that its recommended that the starting weight is 20kg. My bar weights 6kg and after adding up all the weights I have I have a grand total of 16kg ish in total.
So even if I start at a lower weight, say 10kg (as I have no strength at all!) the rate this programme increases its weight by, I'm gonna run out of weight really quickly aren't I?!!

Yes, having a complete set of weights would be helpful, but you can still start with the movements. Once you get to the point where you are lifting all your plates, you can always add make shift weights like water jugs filled to a certain weight or even canned foods. just tie them on or loop some string around the handle and the bar. Sounds kind of crazy, but there are many things that you can use to increase weight while you work on finding super good deals on additional plates. Sand bags are another great weight source.
I would go ahead and start and get used to the movements. Look for weights at resuse shops or online with craigslist or even ebay. You may find someone who just wants the weights out of their house.0 -
Thank you! Using other stuff hadn't even occurred to me!! lol0

I started with about 100lbs in york sand filled (hate those) and a few odds and ends plates. You find that the metal plates run about
1$ a pound for the metal.
I have just slowly bought new plates 2 @ 25, 2@10 etc...
You have a squat rack which is a definate asset.
But yes look on amazon, craigs list, kijiji depending on where you are as most plates you can get for 50cents -1$ lb used...
I love the idea of other items being used too...0 -
I'm in the UK, but I've started look around some second hand sites to see what I can get.0
