Pizza

The only thing I really miss, is Pizza. Sometimes I even dream about it. I haven't had coffee, rice, potatoes or bread in over 30 days- and while I used to eat those things almost daily- I find I don't miss them at all, but I miss Pizza. Greasy, cheesy, 99 cent slice, ordered through a window on a NY street corner- Pizza. So- last night I sliced up a plum tomato, sautéed it with a bit of olive oil, salt, and melted a slice of provolone cheese on it- and it tasted enough like pizza that I had a good night’s sleep. I think I can get on with my life now.

That's really funny. But I think you've hit the nail on the head and the thing to do is to find replacements that help you and your unconscious sleeping brain to be satisfied. Great job and I think I'll try that recipe too.0

Thanks Sue! I was very happy with my solution- and I wondered if others had that same issue, that one thing they just found themselves getting hung up in thier new life!0

Try Farinata or Socca. I make a 10" Farinata almost every week. I could never portion control pizza but I have no trouble with Farinata0

Pizza is my trigger food as well, or rather used to be.
My wife and I rarely do take-out pizza anymore. If we do, we'll get thin crust from Papa Johns. Usually our cheat meal.
Other times, we'll make it at home. What we do is crisp up a tortilla in the oven for a few minutes. Then we'll put our favorite toppings on them, and stick them back in the oven for another few minutes until everything is melted. We've done it with flatbreads as well. Give you the crisp crust, melted cheese and the tomato sauce. We both are about 19 month post RNY.0 -
Thanks again you guys- you always come through with good stuff. I had never even met Faranita before, and now I think we will be best friends! I've tried a crisped tortilla before w/ some fav toppings on it- but haven't tried it post surg. I may go back to that too. I'm almost a month out from surg and trying to stay around 850 cal a day with the majority being protein. I'm seeing the nutritionist again on Friday to get some guidelines and discuss advancing my diet. I haven’t tried eating meat again yet, and I am getting kind of tired of eggs.0

Farinata is not low calorie. 1/8 of 10" is 150 calories. But I find it extremely satisfying with its protein and fiber content. Watch the Food Wishes video to make it perfectly. Good luck. Oh, and you can buy your chickpea flour at any Indian shop. They call it besan.0

Thank you! I do live in an area where that's easy to get. If I make one and portion it out for a few meals I should be OK w/ that calorie content.0

The only thing I miss is potato. I really miss french fries and homefries. I am not allowed potato/starches until I hit my 6 month mark as long as I don't go over my carbs. My nutritionist gave me a goal of 100 net carbs, but I do 50 total carbs.0

I have made pizza at home using Flatout wraps for the crust. They get crispy but not crumbly. Another alternative is Sandwich thins. I have found a thin, crispy crust works best and have been able to find a few places to go locally also. Thankfully my favorite place preop has a thin crust. I am almost 10 months out and am finding I can start to eat, on occasion, things like pizza. Notice is stated "On occassion". Its a matter of trial and error to see what works best for you.0

Try mashing up some cauliflower and add some butter buds and cheese and it's pretty close to mashed potatoes.0
