Oh and I ordered some "Magic Pudding" which is a pudding blend of Trutein powder. Thinking it should be arriving today. Got the vanilla caramel flavor.

Oh my…that sounds delicious. I love caramel. Please let us know what you think after you try it. I like thicker textures which is why I use yogurt instead of a liquid and the pudding sounds right up my alley.

I had a sample of the chocolate pudding last time I ordered from them and I couldn't tell that it wasn't Jello pudding except for the slight protein powder after taste, but that didn't last long. I may make frozen protein pudding pops with it as well.

the vanilla caramel is good. Nice pudding texture, subtle, yet noticeable caramel flavor. Still has a bit of that artificial sweetener aftertaste which does get a negative mark for. I'd give it 8/10, will be a nice change from shakes here and there when I need a dessert fix.

I've always used Optimum Nutrition's Whey Protein. They're a great company that's been in the business forever. A couple of years ago I switched to their Natural Whey and Casein products as they're all natural with none of the artificial sweetener crap in it.

One thing with Whey protein you need to watch for is the % of cholesterol in it. Off the top of my head, GNC & Muscle Pharm's protein powders are very high in cholesterol.

Why would that make a difference? Isn't dietary cholesterol pretty much unrelated to serum cholesterol?

Makes no difference to me either way... my total cholesterol is less than 110, so I would still eat shrimp topped with egg yolk IIFMM.

I personally don't like unnecessary crap in my protein (hence why I drink the Natural Whey), but to each their own. If you're one of the IIFMM crowd we're not going to agree on this or anything nutrition related anyway.

I'm a fan of Trutein powders. Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup is my favorite. I also like the Cinnabun. I use the vanilla flavor for recipes, but really don't care for it in a shake. The nice thing about the Trutein is that they do a three protein split of whey, egg white, and casein. So you get the time release of the three different kinds. Casein is slow to break down so it can help keep you full longer.

I had tried some other ones in the past and will only use Trutein at this point because it is the best tasting I've had. If you are in the US this is the company I recently bought from and they had a good price: http://www.bestpricenutrition.com/body-nutrition.html
I also currently use Trutein, but now that they have rebranded, the price has gone way up (same price, but for 4lbs instead of 5lb). I'm addicted to the cinnabun flavor. Chocolate peanut butter cup and pumpkin pie were both good, but I still prefer the cinnabun (I buy two flavors at a time and trade off so I don't get bored, but I don't think I'd ever really get bored of the cinnabun).

^^ Not happy about that either.

Not impressed with their "Magic Pudding." I can make my own "magic" by just reducing the liquid with the protein powder, let it sit in the fridge a bit and get pudding....for less money/product too and no Carrageenan crap that angers my intestines.

I've been using nature made. It's not completely dairy free but is lactose free. I only use it after lifting and I haven't had any of the... Issues I get with dairy. I just went and bought it at sam's for a decent price. It tastes fine.

Well, now I'm going to think about hitting Ron of Japan in the Chicagoland area all day (which is going to be tricky, given that it's 4 hours away).

Just goes to show you different people have different mental frameworks. I was literally imagining the oozy yolk from a fried egg on top of a pile of steamed shrimp.

But all these tarted up versions are probably good too. :drinker:

OOh, I hadn't thought about artificial sweeteners; I'm not a big fan of aspartame or stevia flavor. sick I did see a good review of the NOW unflavored stuff, so I'll probably try that down the line

I've gone through a 5lbs tub of Now unflavored isolate. It uhm... Wasn,t bad? On its own it kinda tasted sour cardboard-y. It was really hard to make it taste somewhat decent with fruits and other flavors. Bananas worked okay. And since it was isolate, it was awful for cooking (everything turned out REALLY dry and chewy and, again, cardboard). But! I found it was great to balance out dymatize's elite whatever's uber sweetness lol.

I use this, and I haven't had an issue mixing it into flavored almond milk, and my morning coffee. Not a bad taste. That being said, I have yet to make my protein granola bars with it. I don't have to cook them in the oven, so hopefully they turn out okay.

It's pretty good! A little sweet, but it's a good first step for me into the world of protein supplements.

Added a teaspoon of espresso powder (usually use it for baking) to my vanilla protein shake this afternoon.

Verdict: yes. This is good. I should get the mocha cappuccino powder immediately.

Have you tried mixing it with water, milk, milk&coffee?
That's what I'm curious about because I wanna try that flavor...

I have not but for you I will try it in 2% milk tomorrow instead of yogurt unless you'd like me to try it in water. Whatever you want...How's that? I would do it today but I found some Trutein samples I ordered a while back and already mixed up chocolate peanut butter cup in my yogurt for after my workout.

    Aww how sweet!
However you want to try it would be much appreciated!

Sorry to be late reporting back. I used 4 oz of 2% milk, 1/2 scoop of the ON Mocha Cappuccino protein powder and 1/2 tsp of the instant espresso powder and to me it tasted like chocolate milk. It was good but just not coffee enough for me. Everything dissolved well in the milk but I would have to add more espresso powder next time to get the coffee oomph or brew an espresso shot and add that to it.

I still like the taste of Mocha Cappuccino/instant espresso powder with yogurt better. I guess it's the tart flavor of the yogurt and the texture that work for me so much…plus I get more protein with the yogurt.
