Rough appointment today, 28 weeks.

Well, my appointment started bad and just ended even worse. I had to see another doctor today, in fact I will see 3 more doctors during my next 3 appointments. This is how the office makes sure that I meet every doctor in the practice, so that when I do deliver, it is not a stranger delivering my baby. Anyhow, in 2 weeks I was up 5 pounds. Yes I know this is a lot, but considering I was told to shoot for 2 pounds a week during the third trimester, I didn't think it was overly awful. Maybe I am just making excuses for myself, but my main concern is making sure my baby is healthy. Anyhow, she saw my weight and went on and on about how I am hurting my baby. She said that I was going to give myself diabetes, and at this rate she would be so big that I wouldn't be able to deliver vaginally. As of now she is measuring at 2 pounds and 12 ounces, which is a perfect size for 28 weeks. Then she said that my blood pressure of 123/75 was way too high, and that between my "high blood pressure" and weight gain, she was worried that I was going to give myself preeclampsia. Anyhow, after a half hour long lecture, they went to listen for the heart beat and heard an irregular heart beat. After confirming the arrhythmia by ultrasound, she got called in to deliver a baby. She said that she needed to call the heart specialist, so I could either wait there for her to return, or go home and wait for her call tonight. Waiting is the worst!!! I already have an appointment with a heart specialist on May 6th because of a calcium deposit that was found, but this seems so much more serious. And the idea of possibly having to wait that long to find something out is awful.

Okay, first of all, you are right, five lbs. is not really a big deal. Your weight can fluctuate up and down five lbs. just over the course of a day! Also, I had GD and if you had it, you'd know by now. Were you tested? It's not something they keep testing for. Third, when I had GD I got the whole "giant baby" nonsense, not so much from my OB but from the diabetes clinic I had to go to. Well, after twice weekly non stress tests, weekly ultrasounds, and weekly doctor's appointments, my baby was 7 lbs. 6 oz. (less than what they told me he was going to weigh at the last ultrasound). Fourth, your blood pressure doesn't seem that high to me. Lastly, try not to worry too much about the heart arrhythmia. I'm sure you will get more information in the coming weeks. I think the way this doctor treated you is terrible!

Totally agree with previous poster! Praying the heart appt goes well, and I'm sure it will! That doctor sounded like a real piece of work! With my last pregnancy, I gained 2 lbs a week from 14 weeks to 28 weeks! ( 45lbs gained total). I was perfectly healthy. No GD. No giant baby! lol You're blood pressure sounds fine to me. Its the bottom number they worry about the most anyway, and as long as its under 80, its perfectly normal! (I think) With my first, I had major swelling and all kinds of problems and was finally induced at 41 weeks b/c my bp was 170/114...I'm sure it had been up at my previous appts a little (though I didn't pay attention) and it wasn't concerning enough to do anything about before 41 weeks. Yours really does sound fine!

I hope you get along better with the next doctor you see and it should be your right to request not to see the other one again. (hugs) Keep us updated!

What a mess! Blood pressure and weight gain are signs of pre-eclampsia, not things that can give you pre-eclampsia (and your BP looks normal). She sounds awful.

Wow, way to guilt a mom. "Give yourself pre eclampsia" also, 5lbs isn't even 5 lbs. if you drank more water that day or were weighed after a meal that could mean a few extra pounds. It really does fluctuate. Your blood pressure is fine, too. She shouldn't be throwing around terms Iike pre-e unless it's legitimate and she's testing you for it. And diabetes, come on, you do or you don't. No need to lecture.

Can you get iin for another OB visit before the specialist visit? Maybe the arrhythmia will have resolved. I'm so sorry that you have to deal with a doctor who apparently loves worst case scenarios. It seems so much more professional when they give you the factual pros and cons.

What a load of rubbish! See, that's why they shouldn't weigh pregnant women so much. We don't get this in England. We get weighed at 12 weeks and that's it.

I know I put on too much weight in my 2nd pregnancy, but no-one seemed concerned. I was induced at 11 days over (she wasn't going anywhere lol) and had a quick labour, just used gas and air, had an 8lbs10 baby and didn't even tear, and was home 5 hours later. I bet if I'd seen your doctor they'd never have imagined that!

Your bp might be higher than they'd like, but you could've been stressed which would make the reading a little higher. It's not even that high anyway. Isn't it 120/80 that they consider borderline?

Hopefully next time you hear the heartbeat all will be fine.

Uggg so sorry you are having to deal with all that! I have really come to believe that the whole 'giant baby' thing is simply a way for dr's to scare women into doing what they want. Eating better, getting a c section, whatever. Our bodies are made to have babies, big or small! And unless you get to the end of your pregnancy and they realize that you are not able to physically birth the baby then they shouldn't worry about it! As for your weight gain, my girlfriend gained 12 pounds in one week with her last pregnancy (hehe) maybe not recomended! But still your 5 is nothing. :)

Thanks ladies! I have already been tested once for GD, I have to test twice because I am "over weight" lol...I was around 5'8 and 190 when I got pregnant. Anyhow, my number was really low. I get tested again today.

As for the heartbeat, we have another appointmet tomorrow, so hopefully I will know then. Thanks :)

LOL... I gained 10lbs in 2 weeks.... and I lost 5 pretty much right away!!!! It could be temporary/water retention and even if it is not, it is just 5lbs. I would not encourage you to gain 5lbs every 2 weeks from now on, obviously, because that could = another 30-35lbs (35 if you're late to deliver). I also gained 5lbs, recently, in 2 days! I have yet to lose it. It has been about 4 days now, but I just had a stomach flu, which made me lose a lb, so it might also be water retention or my body getting back into the swing of digestion. No worries! There are lots of reasons why you might have gained 5lbs and as long as you eat healthy and stay a little active, you and baby should be fine. Your blood pressure is not high at all, in my opinion. When I was pregnant with my daughter, which was my first pregnancy, I had blood pressure that was not exactly, but somewhere around 160/95... THAT is high... they considered delivering early, but the other tests for pre-eclampsia were normal and the baby sounded normal, so they just told me not to stress and to be careful what I was eating for the last few weeks of the pregnancy. During that pregnancy, I was at risk almost the entire time because my blood pressure was almost always about 130-145/ (?).. The top number was always pretty high. Your blood pressure being slightly elevated once, or even a couple of times is not anything to worry about on it's own. However, the irregular heartbeat is a concern. What was the heartbeat? I didn't read all of the comments, so I'm not sure if you replied about that at all, yet, but I will go back and look. Good luck and don't worry until you need to.. Meaning, stay calm until you speak to the specialist and they can run further tests. Prayers coming your way! :)<3
