Last Night's Shocking scene (spoilers)

Can I just say, I was pretty shocked at such a big deviation from the source material in regards to Jaime and Cersei. I can't get over the fact that he rapes her. It's such a deviation from his redemption arc that I'm wondering what the writers are doing.

I'm starting to have a real problem with the way GOT exploits sexual violence against their female characters for shock value. I was not on board with Khal Drogo raping Danerys and then having them fall in love or even poor Ros who wasn't even canon getting offed in such a violent and tragic way just to show that Joffrey was a sociopath (cause we didn't know that already!) But this seems to be a pattern and one that makes me sad because GRRM managed to write about rape without sacrificing character development.

Anyway, what do you guys think?

I felt the same way about that scene last night. It was hard to watch even though I hate Cersei.

Hmmm. I was on the fence about whether it really was rape. I mean, I know the whole "no means no" thing, but the way that scene played, it felt more to me like she knew they shouldn't do it there under those circumstances but she also still wanted it. She said no but she didn't really fight him, either. She was holding his face and kissing him while saying, "Not here. It isn't right."

It was uncomfortable, though. I was watching with a friend who hasn't read the books and all I could say was, "It didn't happen that way in the book ..."

ETA: I think they screwed up bringing Jamie back too soon and showing Cersei be so nasty to him before that scene. I mean, it's the first time they see each other in the book and she's overcome with emotion for him and THEN she turns on him. A lot of the book deviations are annoying me simply because they're changing the story and the characters too much and I don't see how they're possibly going to get to the same conclusions.
