US Passport Flagged

Hey, I thought that this might be a good question to ask you guys. I traveled to Peru last August and brought a piece of fruit back to make my family one of the fruity drinks that they drink there. I didn't think it would be a big deal, but customs caught me and said that they were flagging my passport because of it and that I would now get checked in customs everytime I travel. Anyone know how long this lasts or how I could get this removed? Or is it possible that this guy was just BSing me?

I really hate being a single lady passing through Customs in Miami, I always feel like a piece of meat there--even when I'm not trying to smuggle in fruit lol!
