This made me cry when I heard about it.

Last year while about half a mile away from the finish line in my marathon, there was a guy sitting on the sidewalk crying. It was obvious he'd given up. Two guys ahead of me stopped, sat down with him, and hugged him. I watched all three of them finish the race just behind me. People can be amazing!

I cried a little. Amazing. I love that he walked over the line himself too.

Proof that no matter where you are...if you are a runner you have friends everywhere. Meg's shoe tree is another prime example of how we come together.

That was a great moment. I watched the finish line webcam for hours and it was so inspirational. Lots of people being helped across the finish, and many more collapsing after crossing. Some had to be carried across in a wheelchair and even a few on a stretcher.

If I go down, do not carry me. I would rather cross the finish on my own power. Just my 2 cents.

I understand this sentiment and in Scott Jurek's book Eat and Run, he basically disqualified a friend by "helping" him across the finish line.

That said, I think this year's race was much more than simply finishing a 26.2 mile run from point A to point B. I think people helping people in this race, particularly near the end where the bombs went off was more an act of community and camaraderie than anything else. Just my two cents.
