Granola

Okay I'm under no illusions, I'm sure that all the granola's advertised on TV are laden with sugar.

Does anyone else eat granola regularly and what is the damage?

For breakfast, I normally have (among other stuff) 100 g Onken Fat Free Yoghurt (44 kcals) with 20 g Jordan's Super Berry Granola (88 kcals) stirred in. So yeah the granola accounts for a lot of calories.

The most heavenly granola i have had was from the Ottolenghi deli, attached to his restaurant in Islington. That would have been higher in cals because it was considerably sweeter and nuttier than my regular serving of Jordan's.

Damage? But granola is my fuel of choice before long cycle rides!!

I really like Sainsbury's Granola but have a big serving (100g) which is 449 cals.
    Suggested serving size is 50g.

    Plus milk of course.

    eat granola regularly

    Yes, it's fuel.

Mind you after a long ride or a long run I'm on an "eat all the foodz" frenzy regardless of how well fueled I was before I started.

That sounds delicious and i am going to try it for my breakfast instead of my bran flakes!

The reason I asked this was there is a yoghurt that the deli at work does which I love. It has a sweet layer at the bottom, a load of plan yoghurt and a layer of granola at the top.

I love my Fage 0% with a bit of agave nectar and because I like it as a mid morning snack and wondered what the best granola out there was (obviously less sugar, cals etc)

I love granola too! If you wanted more control you could make your own? It's just oats with oil, honey and sugar (oil only needs to give small coating to the oats and can control sweetness/calories with however much sugar and honey you want), pop in the oven, leave out to harden and mix with any nuts or dried fruit you want. Have done it before but am being lazy at the moment!

I love love love granola. My favourite is Quaker Oats granola with raisins but it is loaded with added sugar. Does anyone know of any delicious granola with little or no added sugar?

I have the Sainsburys stuff too, tastes great but be careful as 50g (the recommended serving) isn't very much at all! Low sugar stuff would be great if anyone's found some.

Works great as fuel for a ride so I tend to only eat it on a cardio day.
