We can all easily list our favorite foods such as pizza, burgers, ice cream and chocolate. But how many of you write down a list of fruits and vegetables you like to eat? Considering how many different types of fruits and vegetables there are out there in the world in the strangest shapes, tastes and even smells. Which ones do you like? You can include herbs as well! You may actually surprise yourself.

Here's mine

Fruit:
Apples (Granny Smith, Jazz or Galas), Bananas, Strawberries, Blueberries, Mangoes, Avocadoes*, Cucumbers*, Peaches, Cherries, Dragonfruit, Kiwi, Starfruit, Grapes, Guava, Passionfruit (juiced), Lemons, Limes, Plums, Nectarines, Apricots, Watermelon, Oranges, Mandarins, Tangerines, Peppers* (cooked), Pomelo, Pomegranate, Kumquats, Rambutans,

*Items starred are technically fruits. If you like squash, they're technically fruits too!

Vegetables:
Carrots, Broccoli, Green Beans, Bean Sprouts, Waterchestnuts, Onions, Garlic, Lettuce (except iceberg), Asparagus, Potatoes, Corn, Yams/Sweet Potatoes, Lentils, Chickpeas, Soybeans (edamame), red cabbage, cilantro, mint, basil, thyme, rosemary, marjoram, bok choy, gai lan (chinese broccoli), green onions, ginger, radishes, spinach, jicama, snap peas, sugar peas, parsley, rhubarb, pumpkin

One fruit/veg I can't stand: Tomatoes - I like ketchup and tomato sauce, but fresh, canned or whatever shape or flavor, I can't stand them!

One fruit/veg I want to try: Something exotic like Uglifruit or Cherimoya or Durian

It's funny, when I started this I was asked what sorts of fruits and vegetables do I like or hate and i was able to radle off a few, i hate raw carrots and tomato, i'm no big fan of celery sticks, and i don't find raw onion or pepper particularly delicate. But in reality I'm not sure where I stand on a lot of vegetables simply because I haven't had a chance to explore them yet. That a applies to quite a few fruits as well, i don't know what they taste like or how i'm suppose to eat them.

So I have been exploring and trying new things, i've also been trying to eat mostly fruits that are in season (have a nice little app that tells me what should be in season, imported and domestic, this month).

I particularly love fruit on my salad. To have a nice spring mix with cutup chucks of peach and pear. I'm not a salad dressing fan so this helps a lot.

    I love:
Apples, pears, lemons, grapefruit, raspberries, blackberries, bananas, oranges, clementines, grapes, watermelon, pomegranate, cherries... I have a lot of others to try.

Oh that reminds me. You might like the documentary "The Fruit Hunters."

I think the vegetables are to many to list.

I do hate with a passion iceberg lettuce. What a waste of lettuce.

It will be easier to list the things I don't like. Lol! I love pretty much everything ive ever eaten.
Veggies - hate any canned leafy greens. Slim in a can -yuk!!
Fruit - honeydew, its not that I hate it I just cant taste it. To me its flavorless. Ive tried it many times because its always in premade fruit salad at the store. I eat it because there has to be something there, people love it! But everytime I'm disappointed, it just taste like a watery sponge.
Herbs - dill, yup hate dill!
spices - anise - taste like black licorice! Yewwwww!
I'm sure there are things that I haven't heard of or aren't sold in our small town, but I've tried everything I can get here. Pretty much love it all. :drinker:

How about posting some easy fruit and veggie dishes here?

One of my favorites, learned to love it when I lived in Bulgaria, is a shopska salada. .. cut a up couple of tomatoes and cukes, grate some feta cheese over them (use a fine grater--you want tiny shreds), drizzle with a little balsamic vinaigrette and toss. Let it sit for a half hour or more If you want the flavors to meld a bit. Absolutely delicious.

Another favorite--cut up tomatoes and cukes, add a chopped up ripe avocado, a can of black beans (drained and rinsed). Finely chop a bunch of cilantro, add to veggies, toss with a little olive oil and lemon juice. Sooooo good. This one should be eaten right away as the avocado turns brown quickly.

Sorry my measurements aren't exact--I cook by feel!

Fruit decadence: chocolate dipped strawberries. I melt semi sweet chocolate chips in the microwave and dunk in the strawberries. Leave on the greenery for easy dunking. Place on parchment paper. Cool in fridge. This is one of the very few sweets I can eat without going into sugar addict overdrive.

I' m definitely a fruit *kitten* when things are in season--plums, cherries, peaches! We all grow blueberries in my Maine neighborhood and eat them by the fistful. This year I'm going to make and can blueberry pepper jam, which is a wonderful glaze for chicken or pork.
