I did my first official lift today

I just got my squat rack and Olympic set yesterday from a woman that was going to be moving. Had to haul it down 3 flights from her apartment and down another at home. Phew! Got up this morning and did my first real lift and I LOVED IT! However, My hands are all tore up from the bar. Now this normally wouldn't be an issue BUT I am a massage Therapist and I don't want to lose sensitivity in my hands and I'm pretty sure no one wants to get a massage with dry, cracked, calloused hands. Any recommendations for me? Will it get better or should I use gloves? TIA

Moisturizer as soon as you are done. Because you need soft hands for your profession, you may want to look into gloves since callouses are inevitable with deadlift and rows. If you can't use gloves, then chalk for the lift, don't wear rings, lotion and pumice stone after.0

Yes most definately this.
I have some on the pads of my hands just below my fingers but no where else and easily dealt with using a pumice.
Chalk is pretty cheap...

Thank you for all the welcomes! I could use some friends that lift if anyone would like to add me.
I have some gloves that I will use on Wednesday, for even part of the routine. They are feeling better now but they were sore this morning that even the shower burned. If that doesn't work out I will look for some chalk. I moisturize a lot anyways and cant wear any rings for work and my wedding ring needs to be re-sized so that is a no also.
Thanks again!0 -
I use gloves. I tried chalk and still developed thick callouses.0

Hi everybody. I joined this group a couple of weeks ago when I started 5x5 at home. However, this morning I joined a gym and did my first official session, so I feel I can join in with the chat now.
I was a little nervous, but it was a very enjoyable experience. The staff were very friendly.
I have been recording in imperial, but the gym's equipment is in metric. Apart from the barbell which appears to be 35lb. I'm not exactly lifting heavy, but am wondering whether to continue with imperial and doing conversions in my head, or just admit defeat and go metric.0
