Ah HA! I beat Howie to creating this thread this week!! Not sure why I'm proud of that, but I am. Probably because he is just so good at it.
Congrats to Howie and to Angela for skipping a pant size last week! Just read that thread and it was fun to see everyone's progress. 44 is super cool Howie! And Angela, I'm stoked that you're having continued success with Carb Nite.
Stacy - I would think you holding steady is a big win also with the traveling and all.
All of your posts are always so great to read!
So I've had a pretty great week also. I am down a pound but I was up a pound last week so it just seems like fluctuation. I'm holding steady on the scale but it is my clothes are seem to be telling a better story. Things are just fitting so loose! I love it!! I feel great and in my mind I am thin! It is funny, I can catch a glimpse of myself and see that I still have my problem areas but they just aren't that big of a problem anymore. The way the clothes fit, and the way I feel is just giving me this high.
I wonder if this is what it feels like to not be broken with negative self image?? Geez, I hope it lasts. It's kinda nice.
So I had my Carb Nite on Saturday night. If I want to knock down any more real weight/inches, I am supposed to go easy and just have like one starchy side + dessert. Weeeeelllll… I feel kinda great and I never want to go easy. So I bought a slice of banana nut bread, an Apple tart, cheese cake and baked (and ate) 5 very heavily buttered biscuits and two pieces of Texas Garlic Toast. I couldn't finish the dessert/sweet stuff. I tried but I slipped into some kind of carb/sugar coma and passed out on the couch. I was pretty tired but still. I think my body just shut down. Good thing. I have no "off' button.
So this Carb Nite was right after a heavy workout and the next day I had extra energy so I did a stairs workout. Since then I have been chillin out. I will walk and do a little light jogging this week. I'm back in my Ultra Low Carb lifestyle until next weekend.
Hope you guys all had a great week!!

Good morning to everyone!
My week is going pretty good. Wish I could say I am getting my eating under control, but I'm still eating way more than I should. Hopefully I can keep it under control so facing the scale on Thursday won't be too bad...
Some good news though! I went to see a sports doctor yesterday about my knee and there is no visible injury or trauma (took x-rays, and he pulled, pushed and yanked on my leg and knee), so it's just a matter of doing more stretches (twice a day), doing the spin bike for a week or so while increasing the resistance, then he said I could slowly incorporate running back into my schedule as long as I start out on soft surface (trails or treadmill). Yea!! Won't be fully recovered by the Tough Mudder, but I should be able to do the run/walk so I can at least keep up with the rest of the Gun Runners Team!! :drinker:
Howie - I have no doubt you will meet all your goals this summer! You are doing awesome and such an inspiration to the rest of us!
Angela - Glad you are finding a combination of working out and Carb Nite that is working for you!
Carol - I think it's awesome that you are now able to put the negative self image aside and enjoy the way you feel and look now! Can't wait until I can get to that point... and I am hopeful I will get there some day!!
Oh, and wanted to let you know... I got my husband doing Paleo! He was on board with the SANE eating and a friend recommended the book "Practical Paleo" so I bought it, he read it, and he is now hooked! He's given up most grains (still has his one beer a day), cooks recipes as close to SANE/Paleo as he can, and he is enjoying the way he feels. So great to have him on "my side" when it comes to the way we are eating. He's great at helping figure out what is and isn't SANE. Makes it so much easier with both of us doing this, because now we don't have any "junk" food in the house. That's not to say we don't splurge once in a while. We still go out to eat twice a week (Tuesday lunch and dinner on Thursday) and we occasionally have a treat (he bought me a brownie for Mother's Day). I am amazed that I don't miss the grains and such as much as I thought I would. I figured I would have a major withdrawal, but it's actually been a fairly easily transition.
This way of eating is such a big change from how I was eating 18 months ago. But it feels so good!!0 -
This week has started pretty slowly for me. I ran an 8k on Saturday morning so that's of couse last week and Sunday we just did Mother's Day stuff (drinking/eating) all day. Besides those few beers on Sunday, I've been eating well, but I didn't even get 10k steps on Sunday or yesterday due to meetings at work and then I guess just because I was lazy last night. I have a problem with any interuption in my normal schedule. A simple change shouldn't throw me off for the whole day, but it always does and I just check out and then get back to it the next day. So, today I ran/walked 4 miles at lunch and I'll be lifting this evening!
I was pretty disappointed with my Carb Nite. I planned to have it on Saturday because of a wedding reception that I was going to. I was actually hoping to eat a piece of cake and they never cut it. Boo. At least they didn't cut into it while we were still there. They had potatoes that were undercooked, so I didn't get many starchy carbs from them and I ended up eating a bunch of gummy bears, taffy, hershey's kisses, and reese's peices as they did have a candy bar there. Not in the plans at all and not satisfying at all, but it was yummy. Basically I consider my first CN a flop. Maybe all that crap did do the trick to refuel are whatever the point is with getting glucose into my body? This Saturday will be much better.
Stacy - I'm so happy you bought Practical Paleo and that your husband is on board too. That really is fabulous and makes life sooooo much easier! Diane is awesome and she has a fabulous podcast called Balanced Bites. Check it out sometime if you aren't already a listener. It's also great news that your knee isn't actually injured. Good stuff! I think your weigh in will be good this Thursday since your hubby is on board with you.
Carol - Carb Nite seems to be working pretty well for you! I look forward to your updates on your N=1 experiments!
Howie - You have consistently lost over the last few week's and that's freaking awesome! Good job!
Have a great week everyone!0 -
I was being lazy yesterday is why you beat me Carol. LOL I'm glad the carb night and everything is working good for you. That was a lot of carbs. LOL
Stacy I'm glad your knee has nothing seriously wrong with it, that is great news. You can do the eating part you know you can! I hope all goes well for you on the scale Thursday. That's also cool about your husband!
My week is going good with the exception of a stupid head cold. I go all winter without one and then 85 degree days and I have a cold. I weigh every day but only officially on Friday, however my unofficial weigh in today has me at 305 which is 101 lbs lost since July of 2013. I won't count it until Friday though as we know the scale can be funny. Keeping my fingers crossed! ;-)
Angela, I hope your carb night starts to work well for you too. I am not sold on the fact that it's carb specific. I think your carb night does the same thing my treat night does. It makes the body think it's getting more so it does not work to hold onto the calories. I'm not sure of all the science behind things but as long as what we are doing is healthy and it works, lets keep it up.0 -
Confession time: I lost my freaking mind yesterday and completely went off the low carb thing. I stopped for pastries in the morning to bring to my office and while I was there one of the people working at the bakery handed me a guava sugar cookie...or some kind of cookie with guava on it. I promptly ate it and didn't think much of it as I "didn't want to be rude." Ha ha!
Then I got to the office and left the pastries in the breakroom. About two hours later I went in there and for whatever reason grabbed one and basically inhaled it. It wasn't even that good which is the part that kills me, but I continued to eat it. After that my afternoon snowballed into a sugar and carb crazed orgy. I even stopped adding my foods to MFP. I had a caramel candy bar (large - the kind sold for fundraisers for grade school), lots of trail mix with dried cranberries and dark chocolate, and then skipped my workout and went to Carrabba's for dinner. I ate the bread (2 slices), fried gnocci, and half of an entree of chicken and pasta (shells) alfredo. I seriously never eat or crave pasta...at least I haven't in the last couple of years.
I'm back at it today. Feeling really mad still about eating all that crap especially when I was doing so great on Carb Nite. I'm not going to do the 10 day low carb thing again, I'm just going to try to proceed as if I didn't loose my mind yesterday.0 -
Angela - Really nothing to say other than what you've already said... which is to chalk it up as "one of those days" and move on. We've all been there and the fact that you've "confessed" and back on track today is best thing you can do for yourself! :flowerforyou: I know I've had days like that and I get so mad because the whole time I'm doing it I know I shouldn't, yet I seem unable to stop.
Howie - How are feeling? Over the cold yet? Nothing worse than having a cold when the weather is nice!
My weigh in went much better than I thought it would! I was down .8 which means I lost what I gained last week plus a little extra. Just .2 away from being back to "free" Lifetime at Weight Watchers, which means I won't have to pay when I weigh in. Yea!
Today is my "dinner indulgence" night. Just going to have whatever I'm craving and sounds good off the menu, will eat until I'm full and remember it's okay to leave food on my plate. I'm terrible about eating even though I'm satisfied or picking at the food because it's sitting in front of me.
Hope everyone is having a good (or better!) day! :happy:0 -
Angela just pick up the pieces (not cookies) and move on. Like Stacy said we have all been there and done that. The thing the makes a difference is what you do after the binge.
Thanks for asking Stacy, I am feeling much better. Glad to hear you had a loss this week. Keep up the good work.0 -
Weighed in and officially now have lost 101 lbs since July. I'm telling you it is a great feeling to be going in the right direction. Only 60 more pounds to goal.0

Way to go Howie! That is so awesome!! :drinker:
Happy Friday to everyone!
So what's everyone's plan for the weekend? Going to be a busy weekend for us... if the weather cooperates! We want to put in two or three more raised flower beds to add to our backyard garden, plus put up the fencing to keep the deer out of it. The weather forecast keeps threatening rain, but it's gorgeous right now. Which makes it very hard to be at work.
Tomorrow morning I am going to the morning Weight Watcher meeting to see some friends, then I'm walking a 5k with some friends (Race for the Cure). Then it's work on the garden or clean house. On Sunday we get our first set up foster kittens for the season. We started fostering kittens last spring - fall and enjoyed it so much we decided to do it again this summer. So on Sunday we get 5 six-week old kittens. We get to "socialize" them and get them big enough to be spayed or neutered, then help to get them adopted. My husband and I know we have to get all our chores and errands done before they arrive because we won't get anything done once they come into the house!
Hope everyone is having an awesome Friday!0 -
We are grilling tonight and then tomorrow we have my nieces graduation and party to go to. Sunday I am not sure but maybe go to the range and do some shooting. Have a good weekend.0
