they seem to have so much in common more than you would think , responsibility ownership honest and fair accounting, the need for support for success...

what do you all think?

Yes! In addition to ownership, support without judgement and a mentor (or three).

i just thought it was interesting , without going full OA - which i found to be a total WASTE - and the few meetings i went to were VERY not my focus...
mainly because there were more bulemics and recovering anorexics, and i went with other issues, i tried like 4 different groups over the course of 2 months, it just didnt happen..

but i thought that there are so many similarieties, even really between all successful weight loss, regardless of surgergically assisted or not

I had belonged to a great OA group about 30 years ago. (Wow! How time flies!) I had lost about 100 pounds, but then I moved out of the area, lost my support group, and went back to the old eating habits. I tried other OA groups, without success.

I agree with you, bethlaf. The concept is great. I believe there is an OA group or two on MFP, but I haven't tried it. My RNY surgeon doesn't offer a support group. He has a monthly info session for those preparing for surgery, but that's it.

MFP offers a great deal of support, but I still miss the face-to-face contact.

i had a great surgeon, but part of my problem was, my doctor was a 4 hour drive away , and after the ins. quit reimbursing the travel , because another doctor was closer , and my doctor left that hospital like 3 weeks after my surgery , there was nothing local, a couple of sort of local people, within an hour drive and i got together a few times, but then it just tailed off, none of us really hit it off personality wise, so it was just support for the surgical issues, etc .

I do think if there were , when i had mine better support i might have dne better, but seriously, i cant complain , all the weight i have gained has been the last 5 years, after my second post op pregn. and bedridden and told to eat eat eat, due to issues with malabsorp. and the twin pregnancy...and then i died , and they were like , nope no exer. for a year .. and was so medically mismanaged i think ...

    but i digress...

i sometimes think about all the 12 step groups i helped with in the prison system and i think back on those lessons and thing of yeah the oa stuff too, and its SO TRUE!!!
