Medtronic Enlite Sensors

I just got the new Enlite sensor for the Medtronic pump. I have been using it for 3 weeks (same sensor) and its amazing! It doesn't hurt, its accurate, the battery somehow seems to last longer than the old sensors did. I don't know how that can be since I didn't get a new transmitter but in the 3 weeks I have only disconnected and charged it once and it still is giving good accurate readings. Amazing! Did I say that it doesn't hurt?
The new sensors are 30 % smaller and go in at a 90 degree angle. I don't know if the angle is what makes it hurt less or the fact that it is smaller. Maybe I just have it in a good spot this time.
New sensors last 6 days then you just have to tell the pump to link to new sensor and it will go for another 6 days. I think I got 10 days and then had to charge. After charging I just connected as if it was a new sensor and get 6 more days again.
Also wanted to let people know that I am using what they call off label prescription because I am using the new sensor with my old pump (Medtronic 523). It took several months to get my doctor to write the prescription for it but so worth the trouble. So much better! Now I just have to convince myself to go back to using the old ones since I have two boxes left and as you know these things are expensive!

I have the new sensor as well but didn't realize that you could keep it in so long without changing it. I have been changing mine out every six days. I've noticed that it is a lot more accurate when I am eating correclty and logging everything in here. Prior to making changes to my eating habits, my sensor was all over the place and I almost gave up on it!

At some point the sensor will start giving inaccurate readings. When that happens make sure its calibrated right (so far with the new one I haven't had any calibration issues but I know that was a frequent problem with the old one). If calibration is not the problem then its time for a new sensor. As long as the readings are good keep it as long as you can. The first day with a new sensor is the least accurate day as the sensor learns over time so the longer you can keep a sensor in the better.
