So close...

I have now lost 91 lbs.... I feel so close to making it to 100 but at the same time I feel like I'm slowing down and don't have the same fire or motivation that I did months ago. I get discouraged thinking of how far I still need to go vs. how far I have come. I try and do all of the motivational things like look at pictures side by side, think of the benefits of my health, and try to stay positive but it's just not working the same way. Does anyone else feel this way and have advice for me?

Oh yes, I think almost everyone who does this hits the wall at one point or another. Mine was at 150 lbs. I hit 148 and stayed there for 6 weeks. Got reamed by the nurse for letting my eating slip (let too many carbs back into the diet.) Which jumped me past the 150 pound lost mark, then I went on vacation. Put on less than a pound on vacation, but also hurt myself the first day back and have been limited in movement since and have been putting weight back on this week through boredom and pity eating.

I think you need to look at this and see what it is that you are really thinking and feeling. Is the thought that hitting the triple digit mark frightening? It really is just a random number on the scale, but it represents something to each of us when we hit a milestone like that. I know I have read of many people who have admitted to becoming frightened as they find their life changing as they lost weight. The world starts to ask different things of us. It is comfortable in a mental fashion to be fat. We know how to live (and die!) as that part of society. Now as our lives have gotten so much better, we find the weight is coming off more slowly, even as our activity levels are going up. We get to eat less, are more attracted to some of the foods that we "gave up" and can easily fall into the old cycles of eating, feeling guilty for eating, and eating more to make us feel better, which never works.

So, my recommendation to you: Find some NEW activity that you can become passionate about. What are you doing for exercise now? If it is walking, start hiking. If you like photography, take your camera and look for beauty where you are walking. Practice your art. If you are going to the gym, try a new piece of equipment. You will find that you have aches from working different muscle groups, but you will also find that the body will release weight easier again with the change up.

Look seriously at what you are eating now. Have you too let old friendly foods back into your diet? Cut them back. Have you started drinking calories? High calorie drinks are the single worst thing we do to ourselves. I know I love them, but do we really need 25 to 30% of our daily calories in a liquid form that will leave us hungry again in an hour or less as it passes right through the stomach.

I don't know if any of this applies to you, I'm just giving you what I have found in my shortcomings or what I have read. I hope it helps. The best way for us to succeed is to stay happy. When the dropping scale slows, we have to find little things to keep us happy. Walking further, smaller clothing sizes, cleaning out the closets of older big sizes, (Being ABLE to clean out the closets, physically and emotionally is huge when we really consider it.)

    Best of Luck to you!
