Short Cervix?! Need advice/support

Hi Everyone. I just got back from the Dr. and I'm a little concerned. My cervix is only measuring at 2.3 cm and I'm 17W 4D with my first baby. The doc is giving me a prescription for a capsule that is supposed to keep my cervix from shortening any more, and I have to go back in 2 weeks for another ultrasound. I made the mistake of googling "short cervix" after my appointment, and now I'm starting to freak out a little. Everything I found talked about long hospitalizations, bed rest, and preemies. Has anyone experienced this? Any tips or advice for a scared first time (soon to be) mom?

Calcium, magnesium, lots of fruits and vegetables, lots of water... Just to help prevent preterm labor.

Try a... uh... crap... can't remember what they are called. The inverter boards. You lay on it, strap yourself to it and tip yourself upside down ... yea, those :p You need to take the pressure off of the cervix. Doing this daily, and any other position that moves the baby away from your cervix and closer to your lungs will help. (Though, it isn't going to help your lungs any.) There are several yoga poses that are really good for taking the pressure off of the cervix and hips, probably just Google for those.

I would say take natural supplements to soften the cervix, but you are too early for that. However, I would suggest massaging down there. Sounds weird, I know. Try using a mild oil like olive oil or flax oil and do a perennial massage and massage very lightly on the cervix. Should help keep it from constricting more at least.
Maybe drink a little red raspberry leaf too, not too much though. Perhaps a cup a day right now.

Sorry I know so very little on this subject. Do you have a midwife or doctor? And is the capsules they are giving you, is it progesterone? There are natural remedies to increasing the progesterone in the body if that is the problem. Have they tested your progesterone levels?
