Pain when Running

Hi! I'll be 27 weeks on Monday and I've been running and exercising very regularly throughout my entire pregnancy. I'm an avid runner and ran a HM at 16 weeks and felt great! However, a week ago I went on an easy 5 mile run and as soon as I stopped, I noticed this awful pain from my left hip flexor/upper groin area. It also felt like a tendon was being pulled from my pelvis/inner thigh. It was so painful, I could barely pick my leg up to get my jeans on after I showered. I literally had to sit down and put my jeans on that way. Since that incident, I've only done the elliptical and group ride class, which doesn't seem to cause the pain, I'm still sore and it still hurts to pick up my left leg, but not as bad. I'm hoping this is just pain from loosening joints and tendons and hoping to be able to get back to running on Monday. Anyone else feeling this type of pain after running?

I actually had this kind of pain about a year ago when I wasn't pregnant. My hip had gotten slightly out of place and I had to see a chiropractor for it to finally stop hurting. I do a lot of yoga and Pilates to keep my hips strong now because they are alway my main issue when I'm not pregnant.

I had to stop running at 6 weeks with this pregnancy. The pressure on my bladder would cause so much pain that even if I pushed through it I would hurt for 2 days after. Wasn't worth it. I walk and some times jog now. I wish I could have made it as long as you!

I hope you get some relief soon!

I don't run but I have had this pain from walking. It lasted for a few days and I was really scared this would prevent me from continuing to exercise while pregnant. I had to give it a few days of rest and although it still comes, it's not as painful as it was the first time and if i take a short break during the work out, it will become less uncomfortable that i am able to finish my walk for the day.

Like @justinskitty, i have also had this pain when i was doing the Curves Circuit training before getting pregnant so i am sure it's not pregnancy related. for me at least.

I'm 32 weeks and still running... and get round ligament pain. It's very unpredictable when I get it. Sometimes it'll be and the beginning of a run; other times I might feel it towards the end. In either event, I always stop and re-group. If I try to start up again and I'm still in pain then I just walk. I also run with a support band under my bump. Truth be told, I would prefer to run but have transitioned more to the stationary bike lately because there are fewer risks involved.

I also had a serious glute-hamstring strain about 28 weeks. I kept trying to run through it and finally took a couple days off which helped. I think it's just weak joints and some muscle atrophy from a weight lifting hiatus.

Thanks for the inputs! I was talking to another friend of mine who ran throughout her ENTIRE pregnancy, even on the day she gave birth she ran 6 miles, which I think is amazing and had high hopes of doing as well. She mentioned that she suffered by the same pain and found out that her hip had gotten slightly out of place and had to have it re-aligned after she had her baby. I'm thinking that may be my problem. I would like to try and have it re-aligned before having the baby, but will have to check with my OB/GYN and make sure it would be okay to do this while pregnant. Not sure if now would be the best time since my joints and ligaments are so loose due to the pregnancy hormones. Really hoping to have some relief soon though, but if I need to just stick to the elliptical and stationary bike until the baby is here, that's what I'll do. I don't want to create an ongoing problem by trying to push through the pain and run, better hold off until it's better.

I have been running my whole pregnancy with zero issues up until about last week. I will be 28 weeks tomorrow and just recently have started feeling worn-out at the gym... I think pregnancy is finally catching up with me! I had it burned in my mind that I would be the type of person that would have no problem running up until pregnancy but that is not the case. I started to really tone down my running pace at around 22/25 weeks and have even toned it down more since then. I somehow hurt myself running yesterday and have excrutiating lower back pain today (very low and on the right side). It almost feels like a pinched nerve. A week ago, I also hurt my general groin area while running. It never hurts during the run but hurts immediately after. Just listen to your body and take it easy. I think I might have to transition to light jogging/power walking =/
