If anyone is interested in purchasing the book its on sale at Amazon right now for a bit over $6 and its thick. I've been so busy, but I'm finally at Chapter 3. This is a great book so far, and I'm learning a lot.
Just a few of my highlights:
Chapter 1 (Calorie Restriction):
"Researchers postulate that when our ancestors struggled through extended periods without food, the body's remarkable survival instinct would kick in and somehow slow down their aging."
"Identified effects of calorie restriction include:
More effective disposal and renewal of cells
Preservation of irreplaceable cells
Reduced rate of growth
More efficient energy production, including increased formation of mitochondria, the cells' energy generators
Enhanced DNA stability
Reduction of age-related decline of the immune system"
Chapter 2 (Eat to Live):
"The plan is not about denial but about choices. Making the healthiest choices to fuel your body while at the same time slowing down the aging process is the ultimate goal."
"on CR, you want to reach low glucose levels in order to activate your longevity genes."
