Well I was giving Carol the chance to beat me in here again but she didn't make it. You all are quiet this week. How are things going. I had a little hiccup over the weekend but back at it since Sunday, I hope the scales will be kind still. :-)

Hello!
I am doing pretty good. Had a busy weekend, but ate way too much Sunday (not sure what is going on... two weeks in a row that I have gone completely off track on Sunday). But my husband and I got our backyard garden started. We bought a bunch of starter plants and got the deer fence up. We still have one more little garden area to plant, then we should be done until my seedlings are ready to be transplanted.
Everyone gearing up for the Memorial Weekend? We are going to be sticking close to home since we will be going on vacation in a couple of weeks (Tough Mudder is just two weeks from Saturday!). We want to get stuff done around the house. Plus we have four foster kittens to play with! Love the little fluff balls. They are so much fun to watch.
Hope everyone is doing well!0 -
Do you mind if someone new jumps in here? I am getting started again, and this time I have brought the entire family with me.
Love to listen to the show BTW.0 -
Hi Mark! Everyone is welcome to jump in here! Good luck with your healthy journey and it's great that your family is on board too!
I'm having a great week so far. Still doing Carb Nite and working out.
Have a great week everyone!0 -
Hey all, just found the podcast from looking up Carb Night on iTunes, just some background info, I started at almost 240 and dropped to 204. Stopped working out due to an injury and stopped eating as well as I should and got back to 223. Back after it now, trying the Carb Night eating style and hitting the weights again. Need to do more cardio, but my knees bother me. Plan to break the bike back out here soon though!
Great podcast so far ladies! I listed to the fangirl episode with Kiefer ( jk lol ) , and the one with Dr. Patel.0 -
Welcome to Mark and Kilosierra! Great to see some new people jumping on here! :drinker:
Mark - are you in Montana? Just ask because that's what it says on the sign in your profile pic!
Angela - Glad you are having a good week! Sounds like you are over your sugar binge from a couple of weeks ago.
Having a pretty good week here... was planning on getting up and attempting a short run/walk this morning to see how my knee would handle it, but I ended up sleeping late instead. Gotten pretty lazy in the last couple of months since I haven't been running or working out. It's going to be hard to get back into the swing of it.
Hope everyone is doing well and having a great week!0 -
Welcome to Mark and Kilosierra it's good to see some new people here. Stacy we have just finished planting our garden. Put in some annuals and then several veggies. I love this time of year.0

Thanks everyone for the welcome. I really started in the middle of March, and then decided that I had better keep track of what I was eating at least. So I have come down about 12 pounds since then. Can you be happy about going slow and then unhappy since it is going slow I used to do powerlifting, so I *know* how to eat.. of course that is different from actually eating that way. Vanilla Ice Cream with Peanut Butter is my downfall, along with good Root Beer. Anyway, I just let everything get away from me. For a lot of years I traveled a ton (home 4 days a month average), and eating out had me way up there in weight after a few years. I started eating better and got down a bunch, but not nearly enough. A couple of years ago I was pretty consistent for about 9 months (on my own), and dropped down to 210. Then I slowly crept up and over where I started... and continued. So this time it is the entire family on board, and run by my wife who is in complete control of the food.
Yes, I am from Montana. We live off-grid outside of Wolf Creek near Rogers Pass, if you know where that is. That picture is with my 12yo ( he is 14 now and taller than I am) taken at the 2012 Montana State Mulitgun Championship held in Boulder, Montana. We go every year as we work the match too. We compete all over the state in 3 Gun, USPSA, and Steel Challenge. Yes, the entire family shoots and competes. My 12yo son and I did the Dirty Dash in Missoula last year and had a blast. I am planning on going for a Spartan or similar next year and I hope I can get the family to do it as well.

Sounds like you and your family have a great time. I have thought about competing in three gun but I'm not sure I want to get into another expense. lol I did just join a muzzleloader club where we compete. That's a lot cheaper when you are probably only firing 25 rounds for the whole match. :-) Now when you say off grid what all does that entail? Do you use solar? Have indoor plumbing? I know there can be different levels of off grid and I was just curious.
My wife and I are doing this together also. It's much easier when you have your family on board.0 -
One thing about 3 Gun is the expenses. Since it is me and the 2 boys.. it is that much worse. I reload all the ammunition, cast bullets and shotgun slugs, and it still is about $70 per person at each match. USPSA in comparison is about $20 for the entire match. I am not counting match fees, fuel, or anything else.
You are also correct in that Off-Grid can mean a lot of things. In our case, we are using solar with a big battery bank. The house is like any normal suburban home. I work in the computer industry, and even have high speed internet. The end of any sort of power/phone lines is 4 miles down a back country road. On a normal year was are 4x4 access for about 6 months. Our growing season is about 80 days, usually, so we use a greenhouse. To run into town for gas and groceries is 55 miles (Helena), and takes about 50 minutes in good weather. Yes, my wife picked the place where we live and I did not force her to live among animals in the wild.0 -
Sounds like a great life even if it is a lot of work. So do you use satellite for your internet or cell towers? How does that work for you and what is the expense? That is a concern for me and my wife as we would like to move out of town but I also am in computers and need a good connection. Of course our out of town is no where near the out of town you speak of. lol0

Mark - Yep, I know where Wolf Creek is... I live in Helena! I'm not into shooting at all, but found the Fat2Fit HQ podcast when I searching for fitness related podcasts. I have nothing against shooting, it's just not my thing (used to target archery years ago). I always joke with my friends that if Armageddon comes, I'll share all my camping and backpacking supplies if they supply the gun power!
I think it's great that your family is able to live off the grid. It's something we talk and joke about, but I don't think we have the right mindset/attitude/aptitude to be successful living that way. But I'm always jealous of the people that can. Bet it's beautiful where you at!
Finally did it! Finally got back to Free Lifetime at Weight Watchers. So no more paying for the meetings... well, as long as I don't go more than two pounds over my weight goal. LOL
I have a friend that just completed the Spartan race in Big Fork. She had a blast and is trying to get me to join her next year. Told her I would let her know after I do the Tough Mudder. Some friends talked about doing the Dirty Dash, but I have yet to see any of them put the money down and register.0 -
"I don't think we have the right mindset/attitude/aptitude to be successful living that way."
I know what you mean Stacy, I don't know if we could do it either but it sure intrigues me.0 -
I'm down 1 more this week. I figured I would have a slow week coming up soon. After losing 5, 4 and 3 consecutively.0
