Fifth Disease

Has anybody else been exposed to Fifth Disease while pregnant? I was exposed to some kids with it a few days ago, and now my 18 month old is feverish and I'm guessing she has it has it (just waiting for the rash to appear, then we'll take her to the doc to confirm). I was 22w2d at the time of exposure, so just past the very dangerous stage (it's really bad for women under 20w), but I'm still nervous. I've put in a call to my midwife to find out if I'm immune (the receptionist at the office said it's a routine test during the initial pre-natal blood work) but I haven't heard back yet. Any other moms with experience with this disease?

It's a pretty common disease in childhood so hopefully you had it already :)

I just googled it. We call it parvovirus or slapped cheek in England, so now I know what it is!

It says it can be harmful if you're under 20 weeks pregnant, but even then only about 10% of mums are affected.

I work in a school and if any of our pupils have anything like this, we get told in case someone is pregnant. Although I expect they don't always know if kids are ill and what they have, so who knows what I've been exposed to through 3 pregnancies working there.

I'd imagine you'll be fine, but can understand why you're worried.

I should have not been too lazy to go googling.
Now that I know it is parvo, I know what it is.
Any word back from the midwife yet?

No word back from the midwife. It doesn't fall into the "emergency" catergory so I haven't paged her since her office closed yesterday, waiting to call again on Monday.
