What needs work...

New month, time to reset and start fresh. Along with the exercise and new foods challenfes, which are awesome..one thing I see myself slipping on in a big way is my weighing and measuring.

So, I can't guarantee this whole month is going to be fabulous, but this week I vow to work on that. Also, to watch the processed foods. When I first restarted, I was doing so well, but a bite here, a handful there has just fueled the hangry so protein, veggies, fats and fruits.

I honestly don't weigh and measure. I just eyeball. I might do some weighing and measuring this week in solidarity, though. Probably good to see how close I am.

I pretty much weigh and measure everything, except those that come in predetermined portion sizes like pieces of bread or slices of chess that are consistent. But because I have cut a lot of processed foods out (most of the time) I way everything else. I prefer weighing over measuring. 1/2 cup leaves more room for error then knowing the exact gram or oz weight. I know its a bit anal but it makes thing easier for me, everything just goes on the scale and i don't have to worry if the measurement was full or level. I especially do it with all my fruits and veg, and pull all the nutritional stuff from the USDA website as they have a nutritional breakdown of virtually every fruit or veg your likely to eat (it's nice that you can just type in the fruit name and the word calories "cherry calories" in google and the search result page lists all the nutritional information from the usda site with a number of portion size options). The app database has most of them in their but its good to know its easy to find if your ever wondering wich of the 12 banana entires you should use.

Since the usda usually offers an option for a serving as 100grams I usually use that and just do the math from whatever the scale says (or let Siri do it for me) and put it in the app as a decimal.

Anywhoo thats how I do it.

I weigh and measure everything I prepare at home. I find it really helps make my logging more accurate. It also makes me very conscious about what I'm eating. For a snack I get up, weigh a portion and eat it. If I want another, and I have the calories, I will get up and weigh out another portion. That helps prevent mindless snacking.

I weigh almost everything when I'm doing what I feel I need to in order to keep my food "clean" otherwise, I really don't know what I'm consuming . What it comes time to food, my on off switch is broken. If I don't weigh, and I really like something, I will always have too much, if it's something I'm not too fond of, I will not eat enough. Anyway...you inspired me to continue to do my best with accurate food portions. Thanks!

Thank you for bringing this back to the top. Only 10 days in and I am already slipping back in. Like that 1 Twix bar and that handful of M&M's I had last night I didn't put in. Dang dude for bringing home candy and putting it on top of the fridge. Like I am NOT going to see it. AND leaving an open pack ready for the taking.

Weighing and measuring is something I need to be more mindful of...and I agree with Ratpat....weighing is more precise.

I need a new food scale!!!

I'm real good about weighing and measuring for a while and then I start eyeballing it. Then one day, I'll look at my plate and realize my portions have gotten larger (or more likely the scale has gone back up) and I go back to weighing and measuring. I really need to invest in a better scale because the one I have isn't very accurate.

I bought the biggest loser one at Wal-Mart it's great.

I have spent a good hour trying to wrap my head around the caloric intake of raw chickeb vs cooked. I have been counting it wrong for sooo long. No, 4oz of cooked chicken breast is NOT 110 calories. More like 200. Raw chicken is 110 calories. Bubble official bursted.
