step count under?

I just got my up bracelet a few days ago, but today is the first time I used it for a timed activity. I walked on the treadmill today, and the treadmill said I had gone 4.736 miles, but when I synced my up, it said I had only gone 4.29 miles. That's nearly a half mile distance of lost steps. I'm concerned, because doesn't that throw off the calories count for the workout?
P.S. I wear it on my left (non-dominant) wrist. I do get some extra steps throughout the day from non-step movement, but I'm more concerned about calories not getting counted from workouts.

You're talking about distance, not step count. You need to calibrate your stride length:

You're very welcome!
Don't get too hung up on accuracy. Just take more steps today than you did yesterday or last week.
And your total burn is your TDEE—way more accurate than any online calculator.0
