Mirena

Have any of y'all had a mirena IUD and decided to remove it due to negative side effects? I'm having mine removed tomorrow and am having second thoughts! I've really struggled to lose this baby weight and constantly feel bloated, so I'm wondering if it's related (my son is 17 months).

The Mirena is low hormone so it really does not affect blood pressure or hampers weight loss. When I first had mine put in I went through problems with bloating it was bad I retained 7lbs of just water weight. My doctor put me a water pill for awhile and it was like magic I stayed on the water pill (perfectly safe what they give pregnant women who swell) till I was past the 6 month mark. I have had mine for 15 months and have no more problems I like it because it was easy and the pill causes so many other problems I just did not want. If I can't lose weight its because I can't keep food out of my mouth. The reason why it was recommended to me was because of how little it affects you regarding moods and weight and blood pressure. I wasn't lucky enough to have my periods wiped out completely but whatever. A lot of people on here are against the mirena but I had more problems on the depo shot than this one. I gained 75lbs on that stupid shot and my husband was ready to leave me because evidently I would snap for no reason yell at him0

Before we started ttc baby #2 I considered the Mirena and the paraguard..I got my nexplanon implant removed due to the side effects (weight gain) so I definitely don't recommend that one. I was going to get the paraguard because it has zero hormones and I love the idea of that! It's effective because it's wrapped in copper (which there is controversy over but it's been used for years and years) and it lasts up to 10 years! But they do say that since the mirena is placed in the uterus and puts out the hormones locally it is less likely to reach the rest of your body unlike the pill or patch which has to make its way south. Although side effects are less likely they're still possible.0

Thank you for the responses! I got mine out yesterday, so I will be sure to post my experience here if I notice it was related to any weight issues.0

I ended up with emergency surgery and lost an ovary because it ruptured my intestines and infected my stomach. I am not a fan.0
