5 Day Pouch Test

Today I am starting the 5 day pouch test to hopefully get back in touch with my eating.
I had RNY 12/09, lost 165lbs, and last year I gained back about 60 of that.
I hate the way I look and feel. I have been on carb overload way too long.
Has anyone done this before?

I've seen some people try it, but they all immediately went back to bad habits after. The best way to get back on track is to start weighing and logging all of your food, and eat they way you did a few months after your surgery. Dense protein first, limit carbs, stick to a calorie limit.

Many think there is some science behind the 5 day pouch test. There isn't. It wasn't invented by a professional, just someone who put it out on the web. After the five days you will need to go back to basics anyway.

I definitely agree I must get back to basics! I've been eating way too many carbs and just too much food overall. I'm hoping this 5 days will help me.

I made it through day 1! LOL!!

I'm noticing that I am not craving the carbs, at the moment anyways.

I hope today went well for you! It isn't easy, as you know, but you can do it! We're here to encourage and to commiserate, but never to judge. Hoping you have a healthy weekend!

I appreciate your wisdom and experience, and of course I agree the key is to get back to basics once the 5 day plan is done. But what motivates us to get recommitted and back on track once we've regained? For me, and perhaps for many others, the 5 day pouch text is precisely the restarter we need to get back on track, to log in all our food, to exercise regularly again -- with pleasure and excitement, to regain a sense of motivation, and -- most important for me so far -- to get over the cravings for carbs. So sure, it's still early in the process for me, but 8 days out, I'm 5 lb. down, recording all my food, staying away from carbs, exercising 45-60 minutes every day, and rediscovering my commitment. I couldn't be any more positive about the benefits of what I like think of as the 5 day Restarter plan. Best of luck to all of you who read this and are looking to get back on track!

A quick update. After doing the 5 day restart plan (also know as the 5DPT) in late June, I've gotten back to basics and stayed on track. I'm now down 12.5 pounds from June 26 to August 6. I'm exercising 6-7 days a week (walking 60-75 minutes), doing protein first, drinking water, keeping track of food and exercise here, and reading boards here and at OH every day. I'm way more focused on doing it right than I was in the year after surgery, when it seemed so easy to lose. But as I learned, it's not at all easy to continue losing or maintain when you don't follow the rules! No more diet soda, wine, simple or processed carbs (bread, crackers, chips, etc.). Still not sure if I'll ever be able to handle pasta, rice, or potatoes again, at least not till maintenance. Any of you been able to eat those and lose?

    Great job Mindy!! :flowerforyou:

I occasionally will eat brown rice, brown pasta, or sweet potatoe and have been able to lose. I've lost about 26 pounds since June...I'm at the cusp of my first goal!! LOL!!

Personally I think I'm better off staying away from pasta and rice but I work with a trainer who says sometimes we need those extra carbs. He's had me on Low Carb/High Protein for 3 days then one day Higher Carb/Lower Protein. For 5 days I did High Protein/High Fat/Low Carb and lost almost 4 pounds of fat! But that cannot be sustained for long.
