Garmin Connect question

Anyone know how to import a gpx file of our route (that doesn't have time stamps) into a Garmin Edge 500? I've been trying to "upload" it into Garmin Connect but it doesn't seem to like it because it doesn't have time stamps like an activity your rode would.

the way it's worked for me (admittedly on a garmin 800) is to plug the garmin into the usb cable, and browse to the garmin device...

in my case it comes up as drive L: for me - substitute the drive letter you get (assumong PC rather than mac)

    browse into

    L:\Garmin\NewFiles\

and drag/drop the .gpx file into this folder.

when it's copied over, unplug the garmin, and switch the Garmin head unit on. After all the initial checks, if I then look in the courses section, the .GPX file shows up as a course.

Can't vouch for this working on a 500, as I don't have one to hand.

may be worth a try though...

ETA: seems I may be on the right track

Hrmmm. I tried that (I had found similar direction for the 800 and 510) and it didn't work. I think it still might be an issue with the lack of time stamps. I have a fancy text editor at work. I might see if I can add some times in.

other one may be to import the .gpx into (say) gpsies.com and export the file as a .TCX - then hopefully Garmin Connect will accept it.

(actually, looking on gpsies, there are 3 export options to try - GPX Track, GPX Route and TCX Garmin Course, plus there's a button to export the file direct to your Garmin head unit.)

Well I got it into Connect. I assume now it'll go on the Edge (I don't have mine at work with me).

Basically I followed the reply from Marcel here, although I added unique times to each point, spaced a second apart which ended up with a 100 MTB route finished in 4 hours. I should upload it to Strava  :

I just doubled checked. Didn't have to add unique times. The same time for each point works too.

I always import as a TCX file. Once I have the file on my computer I drag and drop it into my Garmin/newfiles folder. Once there, as soon as I sync through Garmin express, the course is loaded on my Edge 500. With turn by turn directions too :-)
