Running my first race tomorrow, a bit nervous!

Hey all! I've been lurking for a bit since I registered for "ultime bouette" (ultimate mud? Ha) here in Québec and tomorrow is the D day. I've been training for it for a few months now but I'm still not sure i'll get through half of the obstacles. But no matter what, I'll do what I can!

I do have one question that may seem silly: According to the event's page, there will not be any assigned spaces for storing personal effects during the race. I'm alright leaving most of my stuff in my car while I run, but I will not have any friends or family on site and I'm not too keen on leaving my car keys in an area where anyone could pick up my backpack and use the remote on the car keys to find my car and leave with it. And I'm not really up for the task of carrying them in my pockets/on my person during the race. What if I lose them? As far as I know, there aren't any lockers that can be used there, either. What would you suggest I do? Someone else has got to have done this!

Also, I have a semi-recent scrape on my right shin that is still a little tender (box jump mishap). Is there anything you guys would recommend I do to protect it? I don't really have the money right now to buy any extra gear (I'll be wearing a dry fit pair of shorts and t-shirt that are relatively close-fitting so they don't weight me down more than needed and my running shoes), so I was thinking maybe I could make something out of an old soccer sock/shinpad or whatnot but I'm not sure it would really offer much extra protection or it would get pretty cumbersome. My other, more lightweight option is a simple strip of k-tape over the scar so I don't bust it open inadvertently, and to hell I'll deal with the pain of banging it up if it happens. Any other ideas?

I'm really excited to do this! The weather forecast is somewhat lousy (heavy rain most of the day) but that might be a good thing! lol

I've left my keys right in my car before. Not my first choice, and not the smartest, but even if I brought my key with me, it would be destroyed in the mud.

As far as the scrape (box jumps are my nemesis, after 12 stitches and a cut down to the bone), I would put on bacitracin or other antibacterial ointment, and a waterproof bandage. You just don't want anything getting in there if you can avoid it. While for heat and appearance, I'd rather run these races in shorts, I end up wearing compression capris to protect my knees as much as possible. I get beat up anyway, but nothing like I do when I wear shorts. I wouldn't wear a t-**** either, unless it's a tech T. You don't want to wear anything made of cotton at all.

    Have a blast!
