I miss vegetables

I used to eat my vegetables first because I love them. I like juicing and blended/juices. Celery and kale with apple makes me happy. I can't have raw veggies yet, and I'm looking forward to the day I can. I think at my 1 month post-op class, they'll tell us we can have raw veggies again. But I'm wondering, Is anybody else missing that aspect of their diet. I've been making a chia seed pudding with yogurt and almond milk. It's yummy and I slice some strawberry on it.

I'm asking because I'm feeling a little guilty that I'm not eating my protein first because I really want the veggies. I think of all those micronutrients. How much better they make me feel. So those of you who are a few months to a few years out...are you eating your veggies? Lots of them? Or do you feel like you can't get enough in?

Yes, I know. I too resisted getting in all my protein. My hair really paid the price. I am a huge veggie eater. I lost 3/4 of my incredibly thick hair. My hair was so thick I had to use extra large bands and huge barrettes. I took all my vitamins and my labs were perfect. Even so Now there isn't enough hair for the tiniest rubber band. You will be back on raw veggies soon. I couldn't live without my celery and cucumbers. Stir fry veggies are the best. I drink vast quantities of carbmaster milk to give me extra protein. I just can't eat that much meat as much as I like it

Every time you talk about your hair, mangopickle, I go put another scoop of protein into my smoothie. You're right. And I think I'll freak if I start losing my hair. I mean, you'll hear it wherever you're standing right now. I'm going to review the way I'm eating and find a way to to get in my veggies AND protein. Thanks for the kick in my ample backside.

I know how you feel, and I missed veggies for a while too, but I have been able to add them back into my diet and you will too, gradually. You might not be able to eat them as often and in the quantities you used to eat, but unless they don't agree with you, they can be part of your diet again.

For the most part, I find veggies to be pretty gross and I have not missed them AT ALL. I have a spinach and yogurt smoothie a few times per week and every once in awhile I will have a handful of steamed broccoli.I also have a salad every now and then. Other than that, i do not really eat veggies nor do I crave them. I do crave cheesecake every once in awhile, though. ;)

I can relate more to Thaeda. Unfortunately for me, I don't like vegetables at all (fresh corn and green beans only) and I have tried to eat them and just can't (probably due to childhood memories where I was forced to eat them before I could leave the table). However, I like a lot of high protein foods: seafood, most dairy, protein mixes, poultry, red meat, etc. and have had no trouble getting my daily protein in. I can't wait until I can have some filet mignon - I won't be able to eat the whole thing, but my mouth is watering. I can always bring the remainder home and have for breakfast the next day with eggs.

My daughter works for Sysco Foods and brings home a lot of samples of a variety of food items to have on hand for the accounts in here territory to try. Two weeks ago she had 6 different individually slices of cheesecake, and I was able to resist. I know someday I'll give in then I'll just adjust my intake for the remainder of the day. No one is perfect.

The only thing I really craved since surgery was vegtables, mostly salad! I was so happy when I was told I could add these back into my diet. Lettuce really fills me though, so I have to eat the protein first, or I can't eat it at all. And that's what you really need to remember, protein first all the time, then your vegies. Your nut will tell you, but start with the easy to digest ones first. Eventually you will get to the point where you can add the rest back in. I still avoid things like potatoes, peas and corn, really any of the "starchy" ones. I love all vegtables, but stick to mainly salads, spinach, gean beans, asparagus, etc.

Mangopickle, when did your hair start falling out? You said in the beginning you weren't great about getting in your protein...but how much were you able to get in the beginning? Just trying to see if I had a similar start? I'm terrified to lose my hair.
