Hope to be back on boards soon

Hello everyone, I have been off the boards and my program (I have continued logging in, it is just way over every day and I am not sure how accurate it is.)

My sister went into the hospital a week ago Monday and this past Monday had a liver transplant. They said she just had hours to live if a liver was not found. Thankfully one was found and she is alive today. Still in intensive care but recovering. She is 49 years old and not a drinker. The doctors think that she went into acute liver failure because she was taking a green tea extract supplement for weight loss. I had never heard of that before so I thought I would share it here.

As for me, the stress and the experience of staying at the hospital and eating from the cafeteria and vending machines has pretty much made it extremely hard to stick with the program. I have continued to log in and set that as my challenge through all this to just log it no matter what I ate. I am hoping that I can get back to eating healthy but this disruption has really thrown me for a loop.

But the good news is: night-time binging is irrelevant when you are awake for 24 hours and then having catnaps on the waiting room sofa.

    Viki,

Sorry to hear about your sister.

I think it is great that you've kept logging. That in of itself is accountability.

    Hang in there!

Sorry to hear also...glad your sister was able to get a new liver. What an awful experience for her and for her family to go thru. I have heard of the green tea extract for weight loss. I think that most of us who are 'mature' (oldies but goodies) have tried so many weight loss products, tricks etc...eventually it comes back to the basics.....watching your intake and exercise. But we all look for a 'quick fix' every now and than. Just happy to hear that your sister has had her transplant, and hopefully all will work out. Take care......doing great with your logging in!!! Wishing your sister a speedy recovery!!!

I'm so sorry to hear about your sister. I'm glad they were able to find a liver and that she is in recovery. I know form only the few times a loved one has been in the hospital how stressful that can be, and my experiences were nothing like yours so I can only imagine. I've heard of people of people getting liver damage from too much green tea extract, i've just never known of someone who has suffered from it.

    I hope she recovers quickly.

You logged and that was the best you could hope for. Everyone deals with stress differently and when your dealing with that theirs not much room for reading nutritional labels. The time you were off wont mean much in the long run, your doing great and will be back to doing even better when your able.

Viki, I am so sorry to hear about your sister but very glad they were able to get her a liver. I can completely understand what you are going through. Two years ago my husband had a liver transplant. He had several complications and ended up spending 17 days in the ICU. So I understand eating hospital food/vending machines and catnapping on couches. My husband had end-stage liver disease/cirrhosis caused by undiagnosed Hep. C. My prayers for a quick recovery. Your life will get back to normal soon and then you'll be able to get back on track. If you ever need to talk, feel free to PM me.

Viki I am so glad they found a liver for your sister. I hope it all turns out well for you both. It is amazing that you are actually tracking through all that so be proud that while your choices are not great it is out of your hands for now and at least you are logging still. When you get back to your routine you can get back on the wagon. Adding a (hug). Take care of yourself, now she has had her transplant take a few hours to get some proper sleep and eat some thing green. xxx

You are doing amazing just logging. I remember the feeling of awe that life just seems to go on for everyone else it seems to halt for those loved ones waiting in the hospital going thru the most stressful times in their lives.

I am praying for you and your family.

Praying that your sister has a speedy recovery . I think it is amazing that you kept logging in during this very stressful time. I'm sure you want to be there to support your sister and other family members. So take care of yourself with sleep and breaks for stress relief.

So sorry that you (and your sister) have to go through this! I think you are amazing to even be able to think about logging, not sure I would have it together enough to even see straight. Make sure you are taking care of yourself too. Best wishes to both of you! Hugs.

I have a friend to whom something similar happened. They blamed hers on an overdose of tylenol/acetaminophen due to migraines. Unfortunately, she did not survive. I don't know all of the details, but I don't believe it was a situation where a transplant was an option, as other organs were failing, too.

Regardless, best of wishes to your sister on a full and fabulous recovery. And pat yourself on the back for continuing to log. That's a huge deal.

    Hugs,
    Carly
