Bumper plates!

This question is for those you have a home gym mostly but input for all is very much welcome!
Ive posted before about creating my home gym when I move. And this AM I read the thread about rows and watched the video that Stef posted. I stopped SL months ago and switched to ICF but once I get my gym created im going back to SL since its shorter and will fit in my half training better.
Anyway so back to the video Stef posted on pendlay rows!
I noticed the dude using bumper plates and that I havent been doing pendlay rows lol.
So I looked up bumper plates and tbh, I plan on only buying 1 set - 10# pair since I can create the rest of the weights with thpse bumper plates and the steel plates I have.
I found these and its like 50$ with shipping. http://www.sportsmith.net/itemform.aspx?item=P16710S&ReturnUrl=/productsearch.aspx?dsNav=N:750025-4294966583
Has anyone else found bumper plates? Whered you get them? How much? Anyone with experience with the site I posted??
Thanks!
(Also I apologize for spelling errors - im on my phone lol)

Be careful what you get fits your bar. Idk what you have, but there's a difference in the hole size for Oly vs. standard. If you have Oly, no prob, since bumper plates are Oly. But if you have standard, you may have to put a small plate inside it, to keep it on.
(I have a York standard set and was thinking of doing the same thing, just getting only the 10s. If I ever get started at home, that's what I'll do I think.)0 -
I learned how useless standard bars were from one of my friends here so ive made sure everything is oly

10lb bumper plates are pretty flimsy. I wouldn't recommend them for taking you all the way up to 135 with rows. Just something to keep in mind depending on where you're at weight wise, and how fast you're progressing.0

Oh wait, you're talking pounds. I was thinking 10kg plates, which is the bumper plates that I'd get, as a nice "in between" til the big boys go on. You might want to think about whatever the pound equivalent of that is (20lb?) and as you said, load the regular plates to make the difference until you can use the big boys.0

Nothing to add except yay bumper plates
And: just noticed Totoro in your profile pic. Nice!0 -

Itd be for more than just rows and I figured 10lb plates would be the best to get since I feel theyre more versatile.
When I finally create this gym, ill have had quite some time off from barbell lifting and with half training, I figured I'd just start over. I'd be lifting twice as week (mondays and thursdays) so progress wont be insane0 -
I purchased some 10 pound bumper plates from ****'s Sporting Goods for $19.99 a piece. I am pretty far away from needing to worry about them being flimsy but I just tried them out with a 25 and 10 on each side with them and it didn't look like they were bending or anything.0

I got mine at D*I*C*K's Sporting Goods, too. http://www.****ssportinggoods.com/product/index.jsp?productId=13266765
I love 'em. I've used them all the way up to 135 on deadlifts with no problem at all. I don't throw my weights down, though. Maybe that makes a difference?0 -

Thanks and thank you Dennie as well!
Ill look into there. Then no shipping! I was at a Sports Authority a few weeks ago and didnt see them there
I wont be tossing or dropping. Rental!!0 -
You can't go wrong with Rogue. That is where I bought my bumper plate set. As others suggested, 10lb bumpers are flimsy and have the tendency to "taco" if they're dropped enough.
Another option is to go with is Technique Plates. I bought some 5lbers (which I use to practice my Olympic lifts) from Christian's Fitness Factory . They also have 10lbers. These plates are SOLID even @ 5lbs. They even have a video on their site showing the plates being dropped repeatedly - https://christiansfitnessfactory.com/cff-technique-training-plates.html0 -
we just ordered pendlay plates from muscledriverusa. same manufacturer as rogue comp plates.
i think you should be fine with 10# bumpers as long as you're not repeatedly dropping from overhead.
yay bumpers!0 -
I bought our bumpers - 10, 25 and 45# - from a local weightlifting store (shop local and all that jazz). We have never used our 10 pound bumpers alone on the floor but they are still a little bent already. I would also get a pair of 25 pounders if at all possible. Much sturdier and easier to handle than the smaller metal 25# plates. Once you are up to 95# you will be bending those little ones!
Pendalay rows are a pretty explosive lift - you don't need to be "throwing your weights around" to have them land on the floor a little roughly.
Buy yay bumpers! I seriously hated rows until we got ours.0
