Macros help please!!!

What macros ratio seems to work the best? My endo said low carb and gluten free is probably my best bet. How low is low carb?

  • I havent figured out the macro ratios yet and have been trying to increase my caloric intake even though it seems impossible some days. I totally agree with your endo about gluten, but im not so sure that carb free is necessarily essential. I used to follow the rules of eating only naturally occurring sugars (nothing processed and little to no sugars added). I found that the muscle weakness and dizzy spells worsened after a short time. I avoided fruit but ate mass quantities of veggies (which aggravated the gastroparesis thanks to all the fiber xD). I would say use the site to track your calories as they are, stick with it for a few weeks and see if you feel okay or need to adjust anything. In a lot of ways, once you kill the gluten its easy to eliminate the extra carbs just because so many processed glutinous foods are carb heavy (breads and pastas). I wish you all the best luck!

My endocrinologist said there's no need to avoid any foods or eat any differently since my Hashimoto's diagnosis.

I'm less hungry when I use MFP's default protein & fiber goals as minimums, and ignore fats & carbs. Everybody's different, and it will take trial & error to find what works for you.

Edited to add that I lost way more slowly than most MFPers, so be patient! But I did it just like everybody else—by eating at a deficit. Read this: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/1080242-a-guide-to-get-you-started-on-your-path-to-sexypants
