I cheated this month and skipped to this article rather than read this months issue of RW in order.

Was just coming here to post this.

    This is awesome!

Now I know exactly what to expect on race day for my first marathon!

In my first marathon, someone commented how great I was doing and how I was one of the first females they saw that day and I was so inspiring.

I sobbed for the next mile and a half.

I choke at aid stations lol

I had water coming up my throat and down my nose once... Not fun! lol

^^ Haha, me too...now I just walk through them.

Although, I'm going to have to reevaluate when I start trying to BQ...I'm going to need every second I can get, lol.

I feel way less bad about the fact that I always stop to drink water. How on earth people drink water from a cup while running is beyond me, but I tried ONCE. Only once. Snorted the water, choked, laughed at myself, and decided it was okay to physically stop to just drink it like a normal person LOL

I'm soooo sad that the Beat the Blerch marathon sold out before I could get in. :(
It's being held on the same trail I already run on my distance days! It's 8 miles from my house! I will definitely be there next year though!
I'm considering going down there anyway, even though I can't run, and holding up a funny sign or something :)

There really is technique to it. When you grab the cup, grab it with one or two fingers inside (this is why all volunteers should hold the cup from the bottom). Then, pinch the top closed so there is only a small spout like opening for the water to flow through. Then you can control the flow of the water into your mouth.

    ^^This.

I was super impressed that the volunteers at almost every aid station on Sunday held out cups holding the bottom.

Twice in the past month I have had volunteers pull the cup away from me. Not cool.

Go volunteer to be a blerch! With as many runners as they are going to have I am sure they will need blerch volunteers.

It's one of the many things you need to train for. Seriously, my coach told me to practise drinking while running (as well as refuelling while running). And, yes, correct technique is everything.

The gear guy on Runner's World did a video of how to do it. I was going to post, but I can't find it

Ah so funny! Makes me want to stop running around my streets and actually enter something - then I can talk to other runners and not just be that crazy runner friend who is always randomly running and eating a **** tonne of food for "no reason". Hahaha :P

Thanks for the tips! I was wondering why they held the cups out the way they did during the half I ran. I am going to practice. There is a track a block from my house, with benches, and I'm going to place some half-full dixie cups of water on those benches and just run circles and try to drink without stopping, and google some videos to see how it's done. The neighbors (whose windows overlook the track) are going to think I've gone absolutely insane.

That means that you are a runner.

    Tips:
    - Grab the cup at the top rim with one finger inside
    - Crease it slightly to form a funnel
    - Dump it into your mouth
    - Pitch it generally toward a trash bin
