Old Shoulder Injury & OHP

I've been doing SL 5x5 for about 2 months now, but I can't get my OHP to go much of anywhere. I have an old shoulder injury that is limiting my lifts- it feels like this: if you made fists, put your knuckles together, and then moved them back and forth. It really only does its thing (or maybe I only notice it) when I'm letting the bar back down. When it does start hurting, it's a dull ache type of pain.

Do you think it's a technique issue, or a structural issue? What would you suggest to either strengthen my shoulder up, or to replace the OHP and avoid it from happening?

I'd go to a physical therapist

I think when it comes to shoulder health and development getting strength in there is key, but if the movement is causing pain then that is never good. See a sports physio and discuss the injury and your training and get that cleared first and then get the physio to recommend some shoulder rehab work

Sports physio would be my suggestion. They can make sure it isn't structural and show you the best way to strengthen the area up, without making things worse.

Definitely go see a physical therapist. If they tell you to strengthen your rotator cuff and scapula area, try the following:

Thanks everyone, I'll look into finding someone to go to. I was kinda hoping that it was something I'd be able to easily incorporate on my own. It's been a while since I did the sports that caused it, and it didn't start until after, so I had hoped that simply building the area back up would be enough. Ah well.
