Hi there. I am Melissa, live in Portland, Or. I am a married mom of 2 boys, Chandler (9) & Lincoln (6 in 2 weeks).
I was Dx with MS in October, thankfully it was a quick Dx as I have a great primary care dr and she ordered the MRI. I had double vision, in addition to all the numbness and tingles.

Anyway, I was down 71 lb, way into a 3 year journey, and I got the confirmation it wasn't cancer, stroke, tumor, I had MS. Talk about a really ****ty thing to hear. Needless to say it has taken an emoitional toll and I gained back 30+ lb. I have been trying to not beat myself up on this, and I know I can lose it again, but I was on such a roll.

But I believe God has a plan, and I am now becoming active in the MS events. In April we did the 5k, and I am signed up for the Bike MS in August (hoping to ride the 35 mile ride). So far I have raised nearly $1200, and I am glad to be working on getting back to the -70!

I am back on MFP and committing to losing 15 lb this summer. Right now I am working on food since my youngest gave me his cold (super strong immune system, attacks nerves, but not the common cold-feh!). So I will hit the gym next week. :) Friend me if you'd like.

Have a great week!
Melissa

Hi Melissa, nice to meet you :) sorry about the diagnosis. I was diagnosed in 2011, and initially it was a shock, but after about 6 months or so I felt so much differently about it. Honestly for me the diagnosis has been a blessing in disguise. I got myself together and lost 40 pounds that I had gained over the years, started being more active again, and haven't really had any major problems since I started on medication. I stopped the medication this winter and am now pregnant with my first and am really excited about it.

Anyway something that kept me going was thinking, "what if the MS gets so bad that one day I can't exercise, etc." and that made me so much more motivated to take advantage of my time NOW. Something else to think about is that your sons will look up to you as taking something that could have been really negative and turned it into something positive for yourself. Congrats on the 5K and your upcoming bike ride!

Feel free to add me, though my diary is not really great right now as I'm not too focused on losing weight. But I will be after I deliver! Good luck!
