Friday, Ordinary 12/Proper 7, shared one of the miraculous stories of the New Testament that the Psalmist spoke of. The Lord would do great and marvelous miracles.
The Old Testament lesson about Jacob in Bethel, dealt with his clearing out the false idols in his home and restoring his life to the purity that would leave them in the position to receive God’s blessing.
Sometimes people have asked for things, but they have blocked receiving the blessing because of the ‘idols’ they cherish. Paul and the Apostles, in the New Testament lesson, clearly were not blocking the blessing.
The Sadducees arrested the Apostles out of jealousy. But the jail could not contain them because that night an angel of the Lord led them out of the prison and directed them to stand in the temple and preach. They obeyed and went to the temple early in the morning.
While they were preaching the high priest and his friends called the Sanhedrin together to bring them to trial. Humor was not wasted by God, for the authorities sent for the apostles in the prison and the messenger returned informing them that the men they sought were not in the jail despite the guards not having left their posts and the doors remaining locked, but that they were in fact, teaching in the temple.
The captain of the guard rearrested them, but without ‘violence’ because they feared the people.
From the Psalmist to the Old Testament lesson to the New Testament lesson, following the will of God produced amazing things, even miracles like having an angel of the Lord escorting the apostles out of a closed guarded prison.
We can internalize the Word of the Lord and become fearless in being able to share the good news and then even greater things can happen.
Thanks be to God.

Prayer: Almighty God, Open my eyes that I might see. Open my mind that I might understand. Open my heart that I might make your words a part of me. May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be acceptable in your sight. Amen

3When I consider your heavens,
the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
4 what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
5You have made them a little lower than the angels
and crowned them with glory and honor. Human beings that you care for them?

Acts 5:17-26
King James Version (KJV)
17 Then the high priest rose up, and all they that were with him, (which is the sect of the Sadducees,) and were filled with indignation,
18 And laid their hands on the apostles, and put them in the common prison.
19 But the angel of the Lord by night opened the prison doors, and brought them forth, and said,
20 Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life.
21 And when they heard that, they entered into the temple early in the morning, and taught. But the high priest came, and they that were with him, and called the council together, and all the senate of the children of Israel, and sent to the prison to have them brought.
22 But when the officers came, and found them not in the prison, they returned and told,
23 Saying, The prison truly found we shut with all safety, and the keepers standing without before the doors: but when we had opened, we found no man within.
24 Now when the high priest and the captain of the temple and the chief priests heard these things, they doubted of them whereunto this would grow.
25 Then came one and told them, saying, Behold, the men whom ye put in prison are standing in the temple, and teaching the people.
26 Then went the captain with the officers, and brought them without violence: for they feared the people, lest they should have been stoned.

Prayer of Encouragement
Almighty God, we give you thanks for the miracles you have done in our lives. Sometimes we don’t even recognize them when we see them, and we ask your forgiveness. Empower us to be like the Apostles and courageous enough to preach the Good News in the face of danger. I lift up Myriam Ibrahim, who has done just that. Protect her Lord so that your name is praised. In Jesus’ name, Amen
Conclusion
Friday, Ordinary 12/Proper 7 offered an amazing miracle of an angel of the Lord intervening for the Apostles and leading them out of the jail without anyone the wiser. They foiled the chief priest’s intent to restrict them and their brazen teaching in the temple swayed the people to the Gospel.
Even being ‘rearrested’ by the captain of the guard without violence spoke volumes of their status.
Many times in the Navy, I was called to pray for the outcome of the upcoming events, or pray for an aircraft that was jinxed, or for healing of sick people and I felt the trepidation of praying for outcomes when I was uncertain of whether I knew best how to pray.
A mentor taught me that I should pray with confidence for whatever the outcome was asked for unless I sensed a strong urge to NOT pray for it. That God used simple everyday events to show people how the Lord cared for believers, even in the small things.
We give credit—the glory and honor—to God for all the amazing things done for our benefit.
Go out and be ready for God to do mighty things in your life—for the glory of God.*
