This week's episode is... Vampires of Venice!
"'The Vampires of Venice' is the sixth episode in the fifth series of the British science fiction television series Doctor Who, which was broadcast on 8 May 2010 on BBC One. Following from the end of 'Flesh and Stone' where his companion Amy had kissed him, the Doctor picks up Amy's fiancé Rory and takes the two on a romantic trip to Venice in 1580. There they are intrigued by a girls' school whose students appear to be vampires and discover that they are really alien refugees in disguise, who plot to make Venice their new home."

A couple of apologies; first, I didn't have time to watch the episode last week, so apologies for not posting there. And apologies for not posting this one till Tuesday... Got a little busy yesterday and forgot to put it up. Hope you'll forgive me!
My husband's first comment as we're watching: "Hey, that's Salladhor Saan!" (from Game of Thrones, he's Isabella's dad in this episode).
I really love Rory in this episode! I feel so bad for him... the Doctor shows up and tells him Amy kissed him... Amy won't say that she missed Rory... Amy says the Doctor should pretend to be her fiance but Rory should pretend to be her brother... You can tell he's really feeling inferior to the excitement and adventure the Doctor gives Amy. But he totally loves Amy and is so devoted to her. Plus I love the scene of him with the broom trying to fight the Saturnyne in the alley. And I love at the end when he says "We are totally not her boys." Haha!
Favorite quotes:
"Rory! That's a relief. Thought I'd burst out of the wrong cake. Again." - The Doctor
"You know what's dangerous about you? You make people take risks, you make them want to impress you. You make it so they don't want to let you down. You have no idea how dangerous you make people to themselves when you're around." -Rory, to the Doctor
Favorite scene:
The Doctor jumping out of the cake. Reminds me of Sherlock.
What I didn't like:
The Saturnyne fish aliens... I dunno, they're not creepy enough or silly enough, they're somewhere in the middle and they don't really do it for me.
The mother/son relationship was creepy too. Reminded me of Lysa and Robin Arryn from Game of Thrones...
I love the scenery. I read that it was filmed in Croatia, a place I've always wanted to visit! It's so pretty!0 -
I forgot how much I liked this one. While I get what you're saying about the Saturnyne's, Helen McCrory's character did give alot of information about what was happening in the universe. And I was glad they weren't straight up vampires.
Rory's quote about the doctor's effect on people is a favorite, but I also enjoyed Matt Smith's delivery of "I'm a time lord, you're a big fish, think of the children."0 -

I agree, I'm glad they weren't straight up vampires. It was an interesting twist. I liked when the perception filter started failing. And I love the line you quoted too, so witty and I love how he says it.0 -
I just watched Amy's Choice out of habit, but I guess the weekly watchalongs may be at an end...0
