Interesting web chat. Have taken some of Gary's suggestions and was able to do two days of hiking with a total of 1800 foot elevation change and 10 miles covered with out boinking low, or getting a rebound high.
Had been trying to do this with basal adjustment and could never work it out. Now I'm eating but covering about a third to half of the carbs with bolus and leaving my basal rate unchanged.

I love Gary. He really helped me to realize how to adjust my basals, or in the case of exercise, to usually not adjust the basal and work with the meal bolus. My problem is I usually workout after work, so I need a snack to keep me from going low. 30 grams of carbohydrate with no coverage seems to be about my magic number for an hour of cardio, such as the elliptical. I still struggle with various classes, such as Body Pump, since each class varies I sometimes go high, and othertimes go low.0
