Hi! I thought I should introduce myself. I'm Niki, I'm 22, and I've been a vegetarian for about a month and a half (one month, two weeks, five days). Feels like it's been way longer, but I'm loving it so far! Whenever people find out I've given up meat, the ALMOST INSTANTANEOUS response is always (or, 9 times out of 10), "I could never do that." You know what, though? You could! It's so easy! I'm just meatless right now, but I made a deal with myself that if I can make it through 6 months without eating meat, I'll go vegan. Already started switching to almond milk, om nom.

Anyway, I wanted to say hi and meet some fun people. I only have like one vegetarian on my FL right now, so it'd be nice to meet some people who are going to be supportive instead of making snarky comments about how crumby my summer is going to be without barbecued meat. Sorry I like corn, fool.

Welcome. I became a vegetarian after my first pregnancy when I could not stand the smell of meat. I just lost my taste for it. That combined with knowing how the animals are treated made me decide to give it up for good.

I have a friend who's vegan, and she made an Easter-themed post on her blog about common easter animals (cute little chicks, piggies, etc.) juxtaposed with gifs of animal cruelty in slaughterhouses. It was kind of a shocker, especially one gif of a bunch of baby chicks being ground up alive. It's the kind of thing that you can't ever get over. That was kind of my big deciding moment.

Have you had any trouble with your later pregnancies? I know people are always like, "You can't go veg if you want to have babies!" Has it been a problem for you at all?

I haven't had any problems. I was a vegetarian when I had our 2nd child. I gained 45-50 lbs and delivered an 8lb 10 oz baby  I am now 10 weeks pregnant with our 3rd and logging my food so I can watch my nutrients and try to avoid excessive weight gain. Some days I do great and some days I eat too much or have sweets but I am paying more attention this time around. It takes a little more effort to eat a balanced diet but it is doable. Usually people who say you can't be healthy or have a healthy pregnancy being vegetarian mean well but just don't have all the facts.
