The Last Ship on TNT

While we're waiting for Walking Dead to return is anyone else also watching "The Last Ship" on TNT? Some virus has wiped out about 80% of the world's population. Governments are gone. Chaos is everywhere. People are out for themselves. Basically, civilization as we know it doesn't exist anymore. Thankfully, on this show when people die, they die for good. No one turns into a zombie. A US naval warship that was far away in the arctic when the pandemic hit has CDC virologists on board who might be able to develop a vaccine. But these scientists are on a ship and they need to get to a proper lab, but getting to a lab will mean going through completely lawless areas on land.

It's on Sundays on TNT. Stars Eric Dane as the very handsome commander of the ship.

Yes I watched the premier. I think it is on the razors edge. It can turn into a really good show, or it can go bad quickly. So far I like what I've seen and can't wait for the backstory on these characters.

The primary CDC virologist, what turned her so grimly cold? What does she know about this virus, or has she seen so much suffering from it that she has become clinical to the point of building a wall between her and those suffering? The coldness that she took the blood samples and the efficient dealing of the lethal morphine dose have me wondering. I saw a bit of compassion come through, I think in that morphine shot scene. And the other virologist? The closing scene grabbed me. Secretly working for what is left of another government?

(I think my dear wife agrees with your assessment of Mr. Dane. lol) It is not Walking Dead or Breaking Bad, but as a pilot goes it does show promise. I'm certainly giving it a chance for the summer.

Falling Skies which the whole family watches, (What is it with apocalyptic shows right now?) has the entire house wondering if this season is going to see the show jump the shark. Not impressed with the first show of the season, but I intend to try to watch it again and try to analyze it a bit deeper. But I stray from your thread topic.

    I like your analysis, dward59.

I work on a military base, so I'm familiar with some of the things on the show. I think compared to some others tv shows involving the military, this one gets most of the military stuff right, but some things are wrong. The CAPT wouldn't lead teams and put himself in jeopardy. Also, the outgoing transmissions by the doctor and her assistant (his to the Russians) would I think have been picked up by the communication specialists on board the ship.

I need to watch Falling Skies. I've seen episodes here and there, but I haven't watched last season from start to finish.

Booksandbeaches. While not military my wife and I both work for a federal agency that shows up in shows fairly often. I grind my teeth at what they do on TV as well. My wife tells me to suspend my credulity or I'll never truly enjoy the show; until they get the uniform wrong then I get to sit back and smile as the rant goes.

Still I see your point. If the communications crew couldn't pick up the signal strength, they wouldn't be in that room. They may not get past some encryption algorithm, but they should certainly be able to tell the signal was coming from on board and during a commanded silent mission. As for the Captain on missions my thought was, "Thank you Jim Kirk." Would not happen, but again I must suspend my disbelief. I did like the second show, I'll keep going back.

thefeniks - I agree on your assessment of the current Falling Skies episode. Second show, while better than the first isn't cutting it. Sadly it reminds me of the bad year or so in the middle of "Lost". I keep hoping whoever wrote the first season will step back up and save the show. Probably not happening. Ah well, I watch too much TV anyway.

I watched a couple of episodes for Adam Baldwin, but even not being military I was a bit put off by the captain going on all the missions by himself...then there's that pointless douche with the hippie hair, what does he even do?

Tex? He's the love interest for the doctor. I find him amusing.

I watch the show for Adam Baldwin too. Have loved him since Firefly.
