Garmin 910xt troubles...

I'm getting frustrated with my Garmin Forerunner 910xt. I only hassle with the lap feature on track day. I had to do 4x600's and I had spent a good amount of time in my mind planning out exactly how to do this with the 200 recoveries. I ran to the track, got to the magic spot and hit my lap button and I was off! I only made it about 400 when my watch made a beep and looked at it and the recovery heart rate box had popped up and said 156 or something like that. It didn't go away, but the time and pace were frozen. I finished the 600 and hoping for the best hit my lap button again. Nothing. Still frozen on that stupid screen. Hit lap again. Nothing. Hit the start/stop button and BAM! it starts! Grrr. Why did it stop by itself? I finished the workout and it was fine after that. But obviously I have no good data on my first lap. This has happened before. Note: there are NO alerts set on the unit. Also, I don't keep history on it. So that's not it. It has the latest firmware. Any ideas? I'm beyond frustrated. My old FR305 was bulletproof, but I needed more battery. Suunto is calling my name. Help!

Have you updated the firmware lately? I believe they are already up to version 9+ something.
I have had a couple of locking issues but haven't had any since the last couple of updates.0 -

Their support is generally really good.0 -
I load up a workout for stuff like that. Warm up until lap press, workout, cool down until lap press. The ability to design workouts on GC and load them up to the watch is really slick, imho. I don't know what could be the problem with your watch, though. I have a 910 and 310 and both work well. One thing I do is to make sure I delete my past workouts. One time I did have an issue with the 310, and I found it didn't seem to work better without loads of workout data on it.0

Thanks guys! Yeah, I always delete past workouts. I'm just OCD and don't want a bunch of crap on my watch.
I've tried sending a workout to my watch one time and it was weird. It changed my screen. I have the layout of my screens exactly how I want them, but when I started a saved workout, it gave me it's own thing. Maybe I'm doing it wrong.
Anyway, it's hit or miss. I'm missing my 305 right about now. After all, I don't need the battery life until my 50M race in November. But I would miss the vibrating alert! That's pretty sweet. How does Suunto not have that as an option? Weird.0 -
You could just have a bad watch. have you contacted Garmin?
I have far fewer troubles with my 910 than I ever did with my 305.0 -

It does change the screen, but your other screens are still available..at least they are on mine.0 -

I went through two 910s last year - both would just shut off during a workout. One of them decided to take a **** during my first marathon. I returned it for a 210, and recently got a 620 and love it (vibrating alert, among other features).0 -
There must have been a bad batch of 910s out there. I have seen people that have had nothing but troubles and people that have had no issues. Mine has been pretty solid once I got past the first several fireware releases.
Contact Garmin, they will probably replace it.0 -
I posted my GPX file to the Garmin community and some experts took a look at it. It's clear now that it was user error on my part. I wanted to come back here and acknowledge that so the 910xt doesn't unfairly have it's reputation besmirched! Anyway, I had forgot about this, but here is exactly what happened apparently:
1. Run to track.
2. Hit my stop button and strip off unnecessary crap for the track workout.
3. Take off while forgetting to hit my Start button.
4. Get to the spot to begin my 600 and hit my Lap button. This essentially ends the lap even though stop was already pushed.
5. 2 minute recovery message pops up. Screen just sitting there.
6. Finish 600 and hit lap. Nothing happens. Of course, because it was stopped. Hit start, and it starts.
7. Finish the rest of the workout as normal.
This perfectly explains what happened. I forgot to hit start when I re-entered the track. It's better than believing that I accidentally hit the stop button. I know I didn't do that. Anyway, sorry to waste everyone's time. But I wanted to set the record straight.0
