The other day I posted a picture on FaceBook of me with a couple of girlfriends. An acquaintance I haven't seen or spoken to in a while messaged me and said, "Dale, you look really different for some reason. I can't tell what it is.. new hair?" I said, "Could be the hair, could be the absence of 184 lbs of fat and misery" lol. Seriously, the hair? It's the second time a man asked if my hair was different. People are funny!

BAH HA HA HA HA HA!!

Sometimes people are afraid fo sounding dumb or offending so they say something "safe". My husband has lost 80 pounds and no one at his work has said one word. But he works with a bunch of guys. Nuff said. LOL

Funny! I know in the workplace it's politically incorrect to mention someone's weight, gain or loss, and it's so bad that my previous boss' boss asked her if it was OK to compliment me on my weight loss! She of course said yes but it's too bad you can't just ask someone if they've lost weight without worrying about it. FB? That's a whole different story, that's just laughable! Hair?!

OMG this happened to me last Saturday night when I went with my old friend to a concert. I had not told him about the surgery and he had seen me not long before. So I was excited anticipating a WOW you look amazing. I got a love your hair. It had not changed. About an hour later he said "those glasses really suit you". I thought maybe in another hour he will realize. No. I did tell him later that evening. His response? " 70lbs? Wow you must have put heaps on from when I last saw you to surgery". Well I can take it two ways,,,, He thought I didn't look any better OR he never thought I was obese in the first place. Men can be very obtuse.

Ding ding ding!!! juliebccs Men are Obtuse.

My husband and I go round and round with this, even at 340lbs he didn't see me as overweight or super morbidly obese. He doesn't complement my weight loss cuz it isn't important to him, it isn't why he loves me. AWWWW right, HECK NO!!! I want the WOW you look great, OMG how you have changed blah blah blah.

I thinks some ppl are scared they might offend you if they comment on your weight. Also I laugh at how it is totally not socially acceptable for ppl to say "are you gaining weight, you better watch that" but it is perfectly ok for someone to say "looking great, how much have you lost now?"

The person who commented is the LEAST politically correct person I know and I am not sure he even understands the concept of offensive - he is out there, which is why I had a WTF moment lol.. I also think it's funny that people won't mention when you are gaining. A few people expressed their concern when I told them I was having surgery, and I told them, I wish more people would have expressed concern as my weight was skyrocketing rather than when I decided to take control of the situation!

ETA - "Men are obtuse" has got to be the understatement of the year lol!

I was hoping not to offend with my remark. Hence the ' can be' component. But it can be quite boggling at times:-)

That just goes to prove that really good men don't put a lot of stock in how much a woman weighs - it's more about personality and how you treat people. It's just that many of them initially seeing the exterior. My Mom and I went to see the new movie "Tammy" yesterday and she mentioned that she never thinks of Melissa McCarthy as fat and I agreed: #1 she has such a beautiful expressive face; #2 she's funny as all get out; and she plays parts that don't really focus on looks, but the character's personality. She said on a couple of the talk shows that she's the same way in real life.

Although you're waiting for that GREAT compliment Latse, it's clear your husband loves you for the person your are, not your weight or anything else. That the greatest compliment in itself and you're a very lucky woman.
