Has anyone used this feature (its on the paid side) Wanted to know what you think of it.

I have used the live tracking on MapMyRide and it seems to be ok. I'm considering switching over to Strava. Frankly didnt do my research before hand. It seems many more riders use strava than MMR.

I've recently started running both at the same time. Does a number on the phone battery though. Strava has made lots of improvements and is older and more well known I think. The both seems to have made major strides in reliability and in accurate data capture. And, as you say, there are more courses, routes, and competition on there.

I still run both in free mode, but maybe the paid options put one clearly over the other, if you subscribe. I've been considering it too.

BTW, MapMyRide has a TDF event you and others might want to join. Free jerseys and such. Looks fun. Starts tomorrow.

Is this something on the App ? if so, I can't help mate...

I do like the "flyby" feature on the Strava Labs page... http://labs.strava.com/

I posted something about it here...

I love the fly by feature! I don't run the app on my phone. I just always upload my Garmin to Strava on my laptop, but I may start using the app for my rides as backup until I replace my Garmin. I'm a premium member. I forgot all that entails, but it's cheap and worth it. I know it lets you create segments.

I really like the Live Tracking feature for when I go ride my Mountain Bike. I can keep the screen open on my PC so my Wife can see where I am. I told her if the blip isnt moving for a long period of time to call me to see if I'm ok....

O BTW that was one of my recent changes as a result from my mechanicals that caused me to do some walking. I had an old smart phone, got it activated on the cheapest plan and stripped it of all apps except MMR. MMR needs active phone service in conjunction with the GPS for the Live Tracking to work. When all the apps are removed and I run only the GPS the battery lasts pretty good. (The other change is I got a mini pump that mounts to my water bottle cage).

In any case, the Live Tracking is a safety deal for me and the only reason I paid for MVP status on MMR. It would be the same for the Active Friends.

Not as concerned when riding on the road, because if something happend to me, there would be plenty of motorists to render aid...at least I would like to think so anyway.
