So I went to visit with a trainer at a powerlifting/strong-man gym. We went through the PL lifts and he said my form was great but we worked on some issues with my deadlift. I am still dealing with a muscle strain or something on my upper back and I felt like I really got how to make it a glute dominant lift because I did a bunch of them and now my back is fine
Then he showed me some strongman stuff and it was super fun! I can tell there aren't a lot of women in the local competitions - he was really trying to encourage me to compete this weekend.
Anyone do strong-woman competitions? Thoughts? At one point I flipped over a 400 pound tire a few times. Some giant dudes hanging out in their cars came over and were like "is that the 400 pound tire? No way!" haha! I have never felt that good or that welcomed at a gym before - I think I am going to join.
ETA: Also? Working out with with 6 and a half foot tall 300 pound strongmen is definitely not a bad way to spend a couple hours

I think it sounds great, why not compete if you like it? Joining sounds good too, sounds like it would be a really supportive group to be around.0

Oh, yes please - tips. I've only DL'd light weights and the first 5X5 weight. I'm still scared I'm going to hurt something.0 -
I don't do strongman competitions, but I train with a bunch of strongpeople. I've even had the honor of doing a couple "strongman saturdays" with Kim (Berg) Zimmerman. I did do a "strong power" fun meet in January that was an axle squat, axle bench, and hummer tire deadlift. I've been to loads of shows, and it's something I've considered trying once I'm in the weight class I want to be in, and have dominated powerlifting. Trying to focus on uh, 2 things a time right now. Plus I hear stones hurt your boobs.0

I totally would love to try all the strongwoman stuff... probably would have a go at competing too, just for the hell of it. Do they have weight classes? Cause I'm not very tall. Although being a little short-*kitten* is an advantage for some lifts. And I have the ideal body type for surviving ice age winters.
ETA: on stones hurting boobs - well I have wide spaced boobs (kind of goes with being barrel chested) so maybe that won't be an issue. And do they hurt as much as teething babies deciding mid feed that your boobs make a great teething toy?0
