We see a practice of sports medicine doctors that are also a family practice. If they diagnose something that needs a specialist that they do not have in house (Podiatrist for feet, for example), they will refer us out to that specialist.

I see my regular GP who refers me out for anything that he can't handle. He is very knowledgable but I also do my own research so we can have intellegent conversations. Currently working with a podiatrist to diagnose an ankle issue which has led to orthodics being made. My podiatrist is also a long distance runner so knows exactly what I am experiencing and why and had no problem with my first comment which was that I was willing to try just about anything but stopping running was not an option.

I am seeing an orthopedic for knee and ankle issues. He is a retired runner so pretty good about getting me back on my feet without telling me to stop doing what I love.

I see a chiropractor who specializes in soft tissue therapy and ART. He's also an ultra-marathoner.

We have sports medicine therapists in our area. Sometimes they are trained in chiropractic. Sometimes they are trained in physical rehabilitation. Either way, I have found that they tend to be a little better than doctors for sports injuries. Doctors tend to know more about serious injuries, the kind that might need surgery, for instance. But, these therapists tend to know much more about the kind of niggling, little injuries that we non-professional, adult athletes are prone to.

Physical therapists also treat running injuries. Several clinics in our area will analyze gait/running as well as evaluate and treat movement related injuries.
