I think it was starting yesterday, but I have what I think is a case of gastroenteritis. I have a call into my surgeon's office. Took a Zofran to stop the nausea, but my gut is in major cramp mode and my sleeve in a state of upheaval. The worst is I can't drink. I'm trying teeny, tiny sips right now, just to get something down.
Weird because two and three days ago, I wasn't hungry at all, but had a powerful thirst. I normally get in my 64 ounces and maybe one more 16 oz bottle, but last couple of days, I've packed away another bottle or two or three after that, sad that I couldn't just gulp it because I was that thirsty.
Has anybody experienced this with the sleeve? Any suggestions. Before the surgery, I'd have just curled on the bed with movies and tried to sleep, but since it's post-sleeve I don't know if this is sleeve-related, or just me somehow catching a virus.
I'm also all by myself for most of the day. Can't wait until somebody gets home. My back is giving me a lot of pain today and I'm feeling so alone.

I am so sorry you are ill! I've never had this and I was sleeved 3 years ago. The closest I've come is eating something that must have gone bad and being sick from it, but once it was out of my stomach, everything settled down.
Just continue to try and reach your surgeon's office and keep sipping what you can. Rest and get well soon!0 -
Definitely sounds like you got something going on, what I have no idea. Like Pat said try to get a hold of doctor and have your tried a freeze of popsicle that might be another way to try and get some fluids in. I hope your feel better soon, know that we are here in spirit with you. P.S. I was sleeved over 3 years ago also and have never experienced what you are describing.0

Thanks, ladies. Talked to the nurse practitioner who assists in surgery. She said this can happen, that it's not necessarily a virus. I was at the hospital three days ago for my support group and am wondering if I picked up a rotavirus. She said it may be that, or it may be the whole system just got 'upset'. Says it can happen if something just doesn't sit well. I guess it's just a reaction to everything and my system may be a little more sensitive now that I'm post-surgery. She wasn't worried it was anything to do with the surgery itself because I am now 8 wks out.
Soooo...she said to stay off solid food for the next 3 days. Says to have the protein drinks and drink when I can and to lay off the vitamins for a few days because they can be irritating. So I made a chicken soup flavor protein drink and added a little greek yogurt to it. So far, it went down fine and I'm encouraged. No cramping. Going to take it easy and take a nap.
Am watching season 7 of Top Chef. Weirdly, while I can't eat the food and I'm not craving it, I'm getting a big kick out of watching cooking shows. Go figure.0 -
Luckily you were able to get in touch with the nurse practitioner and am taking her advice. I'm so glad that the chicken soup went down well and cramping is gone. Take it easy and get all the rest you can.
I just recorded Season 6 of Top Chef even though I watched it when it was on. Love that show and I don't even really cook as I live alone, so there's not much point.
I know some of my vitamins/supplements don't sit well as they are so large and I can't take them until noontime so as not to interfere with my routine rx medications. You have all my sympathy. Back a few decades when I was having my monthly cramps (had endometriosis so could barely walk), I would use a warm/wet heating pad on tummy and lower back, or take a nice long soak in Epsom salts.
Rest up lady and get better soon,

I'd love to have a nice long soak. Since the surgery, I haven't been able to get into a bathtub. I have a hard time. Yet I was able to when I weighed 40 pounds more. Might still be a little two much strain on the abdomen muscles and my back is different is surgery. Better in many ways and more delicate in others. Still all by my lonesome here, so will have to wait until somebody gets home to give it a try.0
