Meditation
Saturday, Ordinary 15/Proper 10, peered into the future with judgment on the mind. The Old Testament lesson in Isaiah spoke of the end times, the final days when God would be judging in the highest mountain of Zion and people of the whole world would be coming to settle the issues. All the wars that had existed for thousands of years will be settled by God’s judgment.
As a result of God’s righteous decisions, there will be no more war between nations, so all the weapons of war will be sold for surplus and recycle into useful objects of daily life. For the Hebrews, they would recognize that war would be giving up their swords and being transformed into plowshares (the cutting element of a plow)—essentially something useful for everyday life.
The Beatles sang a song, “Imagine” where there would be no more wars. The old Spiritual, “Down By the Riverside” sang, “study war no more.” Songs have dreamed of the days when there would be no more wars, but this was foretelling the day that God would unite the world and wars would cease.
What a beautiful day that will be.
We live in a time where every day brings news of some deaths—wars, violence in streets, cultures verging on wars—heartbreak for the families on each side. My children haven’t known a time of peace. I find it hard to remember how life was without the viciousness of battle.
But with God there will be.
The New Testament lesson in John spoke of Jesus teaching about the final days of judgment; how his words came from his father. There will come a day when all will be judged by the words of Christ. He taught the words that his father told him to say, for people to achieve eternal life. He said he was not the one who would judge those who failed to heed his words. He came to save people, not to judge people. He came to shine the light, As the Psalmist said, ‘thy word is a lamp unto my feet.’ We can know the correct thing to do when we obey his teaching.
Thanks be to God.¬¬

Prayer: Almighty God, Open my eyes that I might see. Open my mind that I might understand. Open my heart that I might make your words a part of me. May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be acceptable in your sight. Amen

Isaiah 2:1-4
King James Version (KJV)
2 The word that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem.
2 And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the LORD's house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it.
3 And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
4 And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.

Conclusion
Friday, Ordinary 15/Proper 10 enjoyed a peek into the future of the world on Judgment Day. There will come a day that wars will cease because of what God will do to bring the nations together. Because of that there will be no need for weapons of war, so they will be able to be recycled into useful implements—swords to ploughshares. We can do our part to prepare the way for the Lord’s ultimate establishment on the Mount of Zion, where nations will travel to meet him and seek his will.
Go out and be ready for God to do mighty things in your life—for the glory of God.*
