Friday, Ordinary 15/Proper 10, the lesson revolved around the sharing of the good news about God. The Old Testament lesson in Deuteronomy celebrated the ways that God had interacted with the nations and found the chosen people in the desert and protected them.
The New Testament lesson in Romans addressed the issues of Paul’s concern for their understanding why he worked so hard to spread the Good News to so many, who had not been privy to the learning of the Hebrew faith. He felt his call was first to the Jews, but then he was called to spread the good news to the non-Jews. Hence, Greece and Rome.
Paul especially went to places where no one else had been, because he didn’t want to get into the ‘territorial’ issues that some people would have. Leaders often became very territorial about their work, forgetting that the work was God’s work and not ‘their’ work.
In addition, the Scriptures spoke of the ways that Creation announced the existence of God. Without resorting to pantheism (which suggests God is IN everything in nature) the Psalmist acknowledged how nature and creation gave evidence of God’s existence. Even Paul agreed that people who hadn’t heard the word, would see and understand.
There would be no excuse for the non-Jew to not know who God was. Many things revealed God’s work in the world, so they might have not heard the gospel preached, might not have seen the Scriptures, but they would still have awareness and understanding.
In our lives, we don’t have to be dependent on things we say or do to adequately explain the Good News. God speaks in many ways so that everyone can know and understand.
Thanks be to God.

Prayer: Almighty God, Open my eyes that I might see. Open my mind that I might understand. Open my heart that I might make your words a part of me. May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be acceptable in your sight. Amen

14 And I myself also am persuaded of you, my brethren, that ye also are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, able also to admonish one another.
15 Nevertheless, brethren, I have written the more boldly unto you in some sort, as putting you in mind, because of the grace that is given to me of God,
16 That I should be the minister of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles, ministering the gospel of God, that the offering up of the Gentiles might be acceptable, being sanctified by the Holy Ghost.
17 I have therefore whereof I may glory through Jesus Christ in those things which pertain to God.
18 For I will not dare to speak of any of those things which Christ hath not wrought by me, to make the Gentiles obedient, by word and deed,
19 Through mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God; so that from Jerusalem, and round about unto Illyricum, I have fully preached the gospel of Christ.
20 Yea, so have I strived to preach the gospel, not where Christ was named, lest I should build upon another man's foundation:
21 But as it is written, To whom he was not spoken of, they shall see: and they that have not heard shall understand.

Prayer of Encouragement
Almighty God, you give us many ways that reveal who you are. We thank you for Paul who reached beyond the Jewish people and taught Gentiles, as well. We ask for help in our own witness to others that we might show the way you provide for our needs. In Jesus name, Amen
Conclusion
Friday, Ordinary 14/Proper 9 revealed how God was at work in the world and in the spreading of the good news. We, who are called to share the gospel, are doing it for the Lord. We don’t take the credit for ourselves. We recognize that God’s creation shares the good news in ways that go beyond speech. People have only to observe the universe and they can see the evidence of God at work.
But like Paul it can be very exciting to be a pioneer in taking the message to those who have not heard or seen before. All is done to insure that the Word of God is understood.
Go out and be ready for God to do mighty things in your life—for the glory of God.*
