Had a great weekend. I ate pretty decent except for Saturday which was my treat day. We had a Jazz and Ribs festival here so I had lots of good ribs and fixings. I'm looking forward to the August challenge it will be good to have some accountability going on.

Howie- Ribs yummmm. I miss good BBQ especially brisket. Every BBQ place that had good reviews can't compare to Texas.

I got off Carb nite nite solutions for a couple of days so i had to restart my induction again. I am back to my weight loss challenge winning weight so whew. I had a lot of fun when i was off carb nite. I used that opportunity to have drinks and carbs with my girlfriends. Hopefully by next week I will start losing.
I am still being lazy with my PT exercise and after yesterday's workout I am starting to feel that something is off. I just have to suck it up and do my PT!!
We had to "return" a new foster to the boarding facility because she is just not getting along with my female Rosie. I think with my male passing away there are some changes in the dynamics of the dogs. Potential adopters always think female are sweeter but man after 5 years of fostering I found that its ALWAYS the b****es. The males, they postured or make a decisive move to drive home its intent and that's it. But the b****es they will keep going and they fight more violently than the males. At least in the husky breed. Usually scuffles are normal but these two won't give in. Neither is willing to back down. Sigh..
I love it that all it takes from my top dog is a stare and a low growl to send both the foster and Rosie away. Well that foster is now at another foster home doing great. I wish them luck or that they have a stronger kennel than me because that little 35lb bundle of energy bent the bottom of my kennel.

I know, I haven't been around much lately! Summer time just seems like a whirlwind of activity for me, probably because I can finally get outside and do stuff! LOL

Life is going okay. Still gaining weight instead of losing it, but it's been a rough couple of weeks. We foster kittens during the summer and this year has been terrible with viruses and infections, so we've lost quite a few of the kittens we were fostering, 4 in the last two weeks. Which makes it very stressful. But at least we have adopted out 13 kittens so far. All healthy and happy in their new homes.

Starting to knuckle down and get back on program. Trying to do a strict Paleo diet for a few days and see how that goes. Doing pretty good so far, and luckily no major cravings (which I think is the thing I fear the most... since I have little to no willpower).

This coming weekend will be a bit of challenge because we are camping and attending a brewfest. So beers and brats on Saturday, but the rest of time we will cook at the campsite. The brewfest is taking place in a small, historic town (very small, the town population isn't more than 1,000), so the challenge for me will be the quaint little candy store and the place that makes the homemade ice cream. So yummy... and hard to resist. So I keep telling myself if I can get through the next 3 1/2 days on plan, then I can splurge for some the ice cream -- but stay out of the candy shop and away from the decadent homemade fudge!

Ribs!! I need to get my wife to pick up some so I can fire up the smoker.

Doing good here. Staring down hard on that 229 number to show up, but that 230.x keeps me busy. This 10 pounds seems like it has taken months.. because it has! The next 6 weeks is a very busy shooting match schedule, so lots of exercise and eating out of the cooler. I have become pretty good at the cooler meals, and the boys keep me on track too.

heronh, I know about those foster dogs and the dynamics of having all females. The males we fostered were never an issue. With 4 of them now it has been interesting at times. Our top dog, who is a herder, is getting old at 8yrs and slowing down, so there are some changes happening it seems.

MG, where is the Brat festival?

Hey guys! Good to hear from all of you. Brats, beers, pups, kittens and of course, RIBS! What an interesting week we all had. I have been working with Jef Fry from Health Nuts Anonymous (another podcast) and he is being a nutrition coach for me. This last week was odd because he has stripped my diet down to nothing almost. HA. That isn't true. I am eating more calories than ever but we took out all kinds of stuff I use as a crutch. My Splenda (in EVERYTHING), my gum, my constant snacking on sunflower seeds. He tells me to just do what I can but I'm kinda "all or nothing" so I just went cold turkey on a bunch of junk. The first few days suuuuuuuucked. But I'm over it now. I don't miss the snacking and that is super weird. He is watching my intake through myfitnesspal and is making tweaks here and there. I lost a few pounds the first week but that was no surprise. I had gained so much so quickly that I'm sure a bit of it was water. This week is just starting so we will see how it goes.
    Yall have a great week.
I'm looking forward to the August challenge also Howie!! :)

Two days of strict Paleo and I'm still doing well. Okay, I still have gum (just two pieces, one the afternoon and one the evening), but other than I've been sticking to the plan. Will be interesting to see how all this protein reflects my weight on the scale...

Carol - Sounds like you are doing well. Will be interested to see how it all turns out... and I will be sneaking peeks at your diary to see what you are eating!

Heronh - I have found something similar with the kittens we foster... the girls are a lot harder to tame and get socialized (a lot of the kittens come from feral cat colonies), but the boys are more laid back and love the attention we give them. But for some reason people want girl kittens...

markd - What? You can't guess where the brewfest is from description? Oh wait... that describes all the small towns in MT.... The brewfest is held in Virginia City at the Bale of Hay Saloon (think that's the name of it...). My husband and I have tickets to the Brewery Follies and will probably catch the matinee of the Virginia City Players, because when it comes down to it, not a lot to do in Virginia City for two days! LOL We did the Ghost Tour last time we were down there and that was a lot of fun. You get a lot of the history of the town when you do that, plus some of the rumors and gossip.

Howie - I agree, the accountability challenge in August is a great idea!

Yee Haw!! Noticed this morning when I got dress for the dog walk that I was down a notch (it was a surprise). I was hoping.. and the scale said 229!! Next goal is 225..

Virginia City.. I have been there quite a bit, particularly when I was growing up. Nevada City was my place to roam and look in all the buildings! A friend of my parents was actually born around the 30's in Virginia City.

It will be interesting here in a couple of weeks as my wife and 14yo son go work the Montana State Fair. Nine days of every temptation that you can think of, and handing it out to people.

So… I weighed in the morning. I was up quite a bit last week because I had been binge eating and overeating for nearly a week, and I know a lot of the stuff I was eating was causing some water retention. I ate okay Thursday through Sunday. Didn’t track all that much, but tried to make good choices. I had a brownie on Saturday and a burger and fries on Sunday (but no bun on the burger) and then did the strict Paleo for three days. I was very nervous about weighing in because I had no idea what all that protein and fat (okay, healthy fats, but still…) would do to my weight. And all I can say is… holy *kitten*!! I was down 6.4 pounds in 7 days! I didn’t even think that was possible for me since I am close to my goal weight (was within 10 pounds of my goal weight). I couldn’t believe it – still can’t. Definitely want to stick with this!

The hard part will be to find some balance because I know I can’t be that restrictive all the time. Need to learn to incorporate some of my favorite foods occasionally without it causing me to go totally off plan.

Now to finish out Day 4 of our strict Paleo plan and then not go overboard this weekend! I am so thankful that my husband is on board with all this. Makes it so much easier (especially since he does a majority of the cooking!). Eating the same way helps to keep both of us on plan and we can bounce ideas off each other.

Hope everyone is having an awesome day!
