Scared to Death About Upcoming Surgery

Hi peeps, I am brand new here and am on the chopping block for a Sleeve surgery. It probably won't be for another few weeks to a month. I am really scared to death about having my stomach chopped up!

I am presently 330 pounds, 5'9" and need to lose about 170 pounds to be considered "within height and weight".

I was on the list for surgery some 7 years ago but was frightened out of doing it. Now I've been at this for about 3 months and as the date gets closer I am fearful. I'm afraid that I would lose a perfectly great functioning organ for failure to lose much.

HELP ME!!!

I really recommend you go to your local WLS surgery support group so you can talk to people face to face about what the process is really like. You can lose as much as you choose to lose. You will be doing 90% of the work. The surgery will give you 20-30lbs but that is about it. Sticking to the 70%protein25%veg-no potato5% whole grain 900-1000 calorie lifestyle is what determines how much you will lose. This is about 4 handfuls of non processed food a day. You have to choose to stop medicating with food. You must completely understand that the sleeve is a tool. It removes the physical sensation of hunger for 6 months to a year. It does absolutely NOTHING to cure food addiction or what we call "Head hunger". My surgery required 6 months of therapy, support group meetings, nutrition consults and multiple surgical / medical education sessions. You may need to talk to your therapist or nutritionist some more. Having the surgery before you are psychologically ready would not be wise. I prepared for 2 yrs but the surgery and lifestyle adjustment were difficult

I was told that I could lose 100 plus on this. I was on the list for about 7 years with another insurance. I tried to do this on my own but cannot. :-(

Yes, you can lose a lot typically 50-70 % of your excess body weight. IF you stick to the rules. It is not magic. You can not eat whatever whenever and expect the sleeve to save you. It will slow or stop you from over indulging the first 6-8 months but you can completely eat around it by grazing all day. The biggest hurdle of obesity is dealing with why you eat more than what you eat. When I am sad I am sad, when I am bored I am bored, when death and destruction come into my life now I pray, I grieve ,I deal, I DON'T eat. Food is just fuel now. I also don't celebrate or reward with food anymore. I used to worship food and talk about it like it was a boyfriend as well as think about it constantly. I had major addiction issues. Examine your relationship with food. Ending it may be driving your anxiety.
